On the serial plate there is a big square with a little square inside it. Below this odd shape is the date the machine was made on. Again, mine says 2/12/1998. Not all Dyson serial plates are like this, my DC14s have the more modern type serial plate that doesn't display the date the machine was...

Indeed they do :) I love my Lux! The Swedes know how to make a good design. So far, I think a Turbpower 2 will have to wait. Make room for more Luxs'! :D

I just looked at the moulded plug and there's a dial, with several numbers and an arrow. Either side of this arrow is '94' suggesting that this Lux was made in 1994, so not quite vintage but it will be next year! (Well it's vintage style, just look how similar it is to the 500s!)

Seeing one of these makes me want one even more! :D Love the colours!

I know, the 500s i've heard good things about. But for now this Lux will do. I would like to know when this machine was made, the rating sticker may hold this clue. Can anyone tell me what year it was made in by the rating sticker? Not that familiar with luxs'
