LUX suction

I'm... not using/sharing a PN in any of these tests...just a floor suction wand...same wand used on both the G & the 1205. I did the soap test on both hoses, which BTW are newer LUX replacements-$$$. Both hoses past the soap test. Clean bag yes, that's a given. Yes, both 1205 motors where gone...

    LUX suction

@frank.... I did the heavy postcard trick. Even if I let the 1205 suck the postcard first, the G easily pulls it away. This is frustrating...I get the same results with two different motors. Makes me think something is going on in the canister, but what? Any ideas anyone (other than buying...

    LUX suction

Is.... it the same sort of device that you would strobe a pulley with to get RPM? I'll Google around and see if I can find one.... Kevin

    LUX suction

Thanks Gareth, I think I might invest in a tool that reads RPM...I can use it on many other small electric motors as well. What sort of tool do you use for this task? How can I find out what the factory RPM range is supposed to be for the 1205 and the G motor? That...

    Electrolux Automatic Resto Begins

If.... not for noise suppression, then it's a start capacitor....I'm still looking at the wiring. Simple test; remove it and see how the motor runs. Kevin

    NOS Electrolux AQUA Sheath Cords

Tyler.... do post some pics when you're ready! I have an early PN1 and a very late PN1 restored.....I have a 'Anniversary ' PN2 that I've yet to restore. That Teflon/metal friction ring arrangement at the top of the telescoping wand ( that grips the metal hose end).....are those replaceable...

    LUX suction

@Vernon Thank you for the heads up on Baird airflow meter. Sounds very much like a worthy tool to own. I read a primer on vacuum facts last night that explained a lot of principles on lift, CFM, watts/amps, flow-through cooling etc. Kevin

    NOS Electrolux AQUA Sheath Cords

Thanks.... for the links! I ordered an aqua cord that was over 72" long (not on purpose)....not at all what I needed. That was the one in your last link. I just need the wand cord for the PN2.....so your second link looks like the right one; 40" OEM for a PN2. Kevin

    LUX suction

After..... I was here last, I Googled around a bit and found a gauge that's meant to measure vacuum lift in inches of water. Probably get that to have as a tool anyway...thanks Frank for the postcard idea;sounds simple but effective. Interesting feedback on the 1205, thanks guys...

    LUX suction

Well..... in defense of the 1205, it still cleans just fine. I'm just a stickler for things that change in motor functions-the urge to 'fix it' I guess. I would be content if the G and 1205 pulled the same, but I think the G has a touch more suction. I know it's not the best method, but I...

    Another Electorlux curbside find!

Wow... finding those LUX's on the curb!! Honestly...... I know there have been literally thousands of LUX's taken to the dump and worse....I try not to lose sleep over it, but sometimes I do. In a 'perfect world' I would stumble upon a huge pile of discarded LUX's...all the models I like and...

    LUX suction

I'm frustrated for my efforts....need some assurance. The other day I was using one of my 1205's and I thought I heard the motor slightly spool down...in other words, decrease in RPM accompanied by what I thought was a change in suction. So....I took the motor out, cleaned, re-oiled the bearing...

    Softening Vinyl

Have ..... you tried something like a pro-grade heat gun. Often vinyl & plastics will soften again when exposed judiciously to focused heat. Kevin

    Electrolux 1205 questions

Rubber... mallet is OK, if you take care and don't rush yourself. Also you can carefully measure the OD of a good segment of the original hose. Try to find a suitable length of plastic pipe (like ABS/PVC), that has the same ID as your hose's OD. Cut the pipe in half lengthwise and use the two...

GE Roll-Easy damaged in shipping ;(

Epoxy, sandpaper and paint....especially if it's a rare item. I epoxied LUX wheels some ten yrs ago that were smashed and use the vacuum to this day. It's an art using epoxy though; how well you mix, how long you fiddle with setting part, how long you cure the repair and the epoxy itself. If you...

    Electrolux Bearing Replacement

You'd be much better of to press the new bearing on....short of a press, you can use a good jaw vice....making sure everything is lined up perfectly and the other end of the shaft is against wood/solid rubber on the vice jaw. Find a socket or pipe that matches the metal shoulder of the bearing...

    Electrolux 1205 questions

+1 You see that a lot in Luxes, especially if they had a long service life. The turquoise G's almost always wound up with tan wheels from the later models. I even found out (here), that the front and back wheels on a G are slightly different; fronts are smaller than rears and the rears seem to...

    Electrolux Model G

Assuming.... everything is OK and that little clear tubing line inside is free & clear....try working the adjustable bag dial so that the door won't pop open when you put your hand over the hose. It's not a problem with any of mine. Kevin

    Electrolux Model G

Well.... unless you find a really low-mileage LUX, taking them apart and restoring to like new is just part of the game. I would consider it an absolute bonanza if I ever found one that I didn't have to open up and fix to some extent. I got a turquoise G at a thrift shop that almost...
