    Dorothy Truccano's Model 305 Hoover

Congratulations! Alex, you scored big time!  The Convertible is cool, the Kenmore is wildly awesome, but the 305 OMG is almost too good to be true!  My most-loved aunt had a 305 and it's been a life-long obsession to find one for myself.  If this one turned up for you maybe there is still hope...

    Estate Sale Eureka

Wow, that's an old one!  It obviously got a new cord and bag at some point and I don't think I've ever seen one from that era with a push-button switch.  As for the brush roll, I'm not an expert on vintage Eurekas but I would have expected it to have a Disturbulator....one row of fat stubby...

    GE Roll Easy

Wow, I wish I could find something that wonderful at an estate sale here!  I have wanted a roll-easy forever but the only ones I've seen are on ebay, and the bidding always goes way beyond what I can justify spending.

    1920s/30s Eureka I think

Lucky find! In my experience you would never find a vacuum like that in a thrift store here.  Anything that old would go directly from the donation bin to the dumpster.

Do the 9 amp Royals perform better?

Ben, I bought my 9700 in 1997 at a discount since it was the last of a dealer's old stock.  It runs as it should and doesn't sound overly loud, certainly not as much as the higher-amp models.  It performed extremely well for me in a commercial/office setting, but seems to me to be more powerful...

    Hoover Vs, Eureka

It's a toss-up for me at least for sentimental/memory re Hoover Convertibles (65, 66, 67, 68, 31, 33) out-numbered Eurekas in the neighborhood where I grew up but the Eureka 260 our next door neighbor had was and is one of my all-time favorites.  As a toddler the Hoovers with their bright...

    Strange Combination

That makes perfect sense, Gareth.  Years ago, the same kind of thing happened with a music store here in the Twin Cities.  For many years they were the exclusive representatives for Allen organs and they pretty much "owned" the electronic church organ market in the area.  When they decided to...

Quite Possibly The Happiest Day Of My Life!

I'm glad you like it Trevor!  As I think I told you, that Heritage II was one of the best vacuums I have ever owned.  It served me well for years as my daily driver and I never really thought about parting with it but, when you said it was your favorite model the decision to give it to you was a...

Dyson clear bin, not so clear..?

Gareth, that's a phenomenal level of service you provide to your customers!  Consistently exceeding expectations is a sure-fire way to build loyal customer relationships and you obviously practice that principle in your business.  Bravo!   Neil

Do the 9 amp Royals perform better?

I have a 7 amp Royal 9700 that is wickedly powerful.  It could easily double as a floor sander.   Don't let go of the handle when it's running.......the brushroll is so aggressive the machine will run away from you!

    HOOVER Bicentennial

We have "scrappers" routinely roaming the neighborhoods, driving beat-up pickup trucks  in search of any bits of metal they can turn in for cash.   The less-scrupled ones will take anything that isn't bolted down and in some cases even that is no deterrent.

Sears & Spiegel Christmas Catalog Vacuum pages

Thank you Dave, those catalogue pages are a walk down memory lane.  Catalogues back then really were our "dream books."

    Strange Combination

The change in Oreck stores and marketing strategy was brought up in a thread earlier this year.  The only thing in life you can be sure of is change. http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?12517

    Today's Haul from Goodwill

Vintagekitchen..... The "air pulse" is squarely in the categorie of being a great idea on paper but utterly useless in reality.  There is a little "flapper" inside the neck of the nozzle which when engaged flutters, causing quick, momentary interuptions in the airflow, kind of like when you...

    Hoover Vs, Eureka

Oh heck, John, I for one enjoy the way you "go on!"  By the way, the house is looking mighty nice there, and is a great classic backdrop to all your wonderful classic Hoovers!   Neil

    should I buy this hoover

Ouch, that poor thing has some battle scars!  The bottom half of the handle spun around 180 degrees looks a little hapless too.  With its plastic base it hails from the later end of the Convertible era but I don't think it's a bad place to start as a first venture with Hoovers.  If the motor...

The Dyson mattress tool. Is it worth it?

A few things to consider..... Mattresses vary greatly in the materials used and how they are constructed.  The older, traditional style innerspring mattress consisted of a layer of felt over the springs and additional layer(s) of fiber padding, covered by a tightly-quilted, smooth-surface...

    Dyson DC07 Thrift Store Find

Gosh, I have one of those, or what remains of it in the basement.  I pulled it out of a trash bin a couple years ago purely out of curiosity because I had no experience with Dysons.  It had seen a lot of hard use, the brushes were worn down to nubs, and it wouldn't turn on, so I never did...
