Consumer Reports no longer recommends Dyson stick vacs

Every time I see the Dyson V8 I think about the $20 Bissell stick vacs and $30 BD Dustbusters that serve the same purpose for soooooo much cheaper. Heck, even the $100 stick vacs (which are fancy enough) are probably the better buy. As far as the brushroll on the V8 is concerned, I honestly...

Consumer Reports no longer recommends Dyson stick vacs

I don't think I'd take a Dyson for free (assuming it was used). It wouldn't be worth my time to disassemble, clean and disinfect, unlike some other vacuums (like an F&G Eureka/Sanitaire, Kirby, Royal metal upright, Hoover Convertible, Kenmore canister, etc. I feel like I'd break something...

Consumer Reports no longer recommends Dyson stick vacs

Uh oh... Looks like Dyson didn't send their check in the mail. In all seriousness, Consumer Reports is not something I personally would rely on. Their testing is for a short amount of time and they rely on their subscribers for their long-term testing, of which the submission pool may be quite...

What is the toughest vacuum motors of the past 50-odd years?

Good to hear that my Royal with the 5.4 is a solid motor. I can't wait to start using mine. I'm waiting on the brushroll.and belts. It's coming by snail mail (it came with a perfectly good brushroll, but I'm a germaphobe and decided against using the one it came with when I bought it at...

What is the toughest vacuum motors of the past 50-odd years?

What vacuum motor, residential or commercial, is the toughest one in your opinion? I have a Sanitaire 7-amp (not the "old" motor, the "new" motor, made in 2016), a Royal 5.4 amp (made in 1988) and a Kirby Sentria I (made in 2007). How would those rate?

    562 Sanitronic

Great find and lucky you! I don't know why Kirbys are so cheap? They are like the Mercedes-Benzes of vacuums (this one is more like a Cadillac of its time). Dysons are like Audis and BMWs, sleek and high tech but will not last as long and are easily broken. I can't believe I got a Sentria at...

Royal Metal Upright model 883 questions

Sure enough, the fan is six blades and the tension relief is a metal spring. Speaking of the fan, I took a look at the video and followed that process step by step yet the fan does not want to come off. This was after aiming some P'blaster penetrating lubricant onto onto the hub to help loosen...

Royal Metal Upright model 883 questions

Do Royal metal uprights have any kind of seal between the front of the motor body and the fancase? I've taken my 883 apart for cleaning and I see no evidence of a seal whatsoever, rubber or compound. It's just the fancase mated to the motor assembly with nothing in between. I will say that there...

Thrift store find: Bought a Kirby Sentria for $20 and then a Royal for $10.

I never see any vacuums at thrift stores in my area, and if I do, they're usually just the cheapie Wal-Mart ones, but last week, I purchased a Kirby Sentria I and am in the process of polishing and cleaning it on weekends. However, yesterday, something drew me to the thrift store again and this...
