What vacuums do/did your parents or grandparents use?

One grandma had an Electrolux Ambassador 2, which I no longer have. I bought an Ambassador 3 from Ebay for the nostalgia. My other grandma had a Eureka Ironsides, which I still have. My parents had a central vacuum, which of course stayed in the house when they sold it. It was a Soluvac unit and...

    Electrolux Ambassador 3

Nice Ambassador 3, I have one as well. My grandma had an Ambassador 2 when I was growing up, so I had to get a similar one. I like the white and blue of the A3.

    Windtunnel brushroll with hex ends

I don't have it unfortunately, the vacuum was given to me without the brushroll. But I'm quite sure I have the right part number, it's 440003987. I added a pic of one of those.

    Windtunnel brushroll with hex ends

I hope this is the right forum, I have a windtunnel 2 and am having trouble finding a replacement brushroll. Most I've found have square ends, but I need hexagon shaped ends. It's about 13" wide. Even if someone knows the part number that would help!

    Electrolux power nozzle bearings

Thanks! I just looked. It's actually an n115k from 1999. Still old enough to have both sleeve bearings?

    Electrolux power nozzle bearings

Hi I'm servicing my two power nozzles. A PN2 and an PN6 (I think). Do or did lux PN motors ever have ball bearings? Both motors seem to have sleeve bearings on the commutator end that take oil, but I can't tell if the belt end has ball bearings (no oil needed) or sleeve bearings.

    Central Vacuums

That 12 amp text on the power nozzle betrays that it's identical to the windtunnel canister power nozzle, to the point they likely came off the exact same production line. Some ended up in boxes with a canister, others ended up in a box with a 30ft central vac hose.

    Central Vacuums

Yes, central Vacs are interesting since essentially all of them use Ametek-Lamb motors and have done so for decades. The key difference is whether they use a flow through or tangential bypass motor. Cheap centrals use a flow through motor, same style as portable canisters. The vacuumed air goes...

    Central Vacuums

I've been curious about this for a long time. I grew up in Canada where central vacs are incredibly common. I'd say most houses built since about 1990 have a central vac installed, and almost all new builds in my area have them. Even my fairly small bungalow "starter" house built in 2010 came...

    My Hoover Spirit

I mentioned this vac in my post about my AP280. Some pics below. Like I said this one lived a hard life. Bag/hood latch broke. Bags are held in with a bent paperclip and hood is taped closed. The back wheels broke off at least 30 years ago, so it has spent most of its life dragged on the bottom...

    My Electrolux AP280

Yeah from what I've read the US/Canada machines were different until about the late 80s or early 90s. I put pics of my Ambassador 3 from 1999. Made in USA and same as the US market model I believe. This vacuum is in the best condition of the 4 I have.

    My Electrolux AP280

I posted about this a week or two ago. Now that the motor is running better I decided to clean up the vacuum and take some pics. It cleaned up quite well, still a few scrapes I can get with a magic eraser. I got it a number of years ago from kijiji, but due to the bad ozone smell I didn't use it...

    Electrolux AP280 motor brushes

Thank you! I took it apart again and this time I used electrical contact cleaner and toothbrushes to clean the holders and commutator much better. I checked the brushes after and they slide really easily now. Even on the first startup I didn't get any ozone smell. :)

    Electrolux AP280 motor brushes

Hello, I had a few questions about my AP280 vacuum. It's a Canadian model, plastic body. Basically the same as the American plastic body Electroluxes. For awhile when I start it, it stinks like ozone/electrical burning. It gets better after it runs for a couple minutes. I swear I could hear...
