Hoover Duster Model 200 on ebay

Minor confusion Just to confuse things a little, here's a picture of vintagehoover's Minor 200 serial number (the Duster was sold in the UK as the Minor, er that is apart from mine which was sold as a Duster although its got a higher serial number than this Minor...) what was going on?

Hoover Duster Model 200 on ebay

Same price as its model number! It looks a lot better than mine did but I liked the price of my one better. The Duster seems to be the only Hoover where there is no distinction between US and Canadian body serial numbers: This is model 200 1156896, mine (Marked as an empire product for made in...

    1919 Hoover plug?

Another one, 9 years later... This very similar plug came with my Canadian built Hoover Duster Model 200 which I am in the process of restoring. It's the same design and manufacturer as Jack's but has lost the cast in Hoover brand embossing. Instead it had two black and orange Hoover logo...

Hoover 450 Rebuild So I have been working away on the 450 that came as part of this find. It came out of the seller's loft in parts, stripped down 30 years ago so I assumed there would be lots missing/it wouldn't work. ( I re-assembled it roughly for the first picture) I bought a Hoover Duster...

    Hoover Duster Model 200 find

Thank you all Beko1987: 😊 Aw shucks man, your making me blush. Seriously its (a) not too tricky (b) not as good as it looks. I am pleased with it though. I have been working on my 450 and 575 in the same way. Think the motor cap on the Duster is the best so far but I can still see the...

    Hoover Duster Model 200 find

Thanks MadMan. Its hard to stop once you've started. When I got this one I thought, well it's rare and very rough so I'll just fix the worst bits. Of course once I had painted the motor cap that made the motor body, which was actually not bad, look terrible. I have also fine sanded the alloy fan...

    Hoover Duster Model 200 find

Spray paint and cabinets Walter, Thank you. I am pleased with how the Duster has turned out so far. The cabinets are a necessity, I live in a flat and there were machines squirrelled away all over the place! Once I have found my last missing machines, disposed of the doublers and restored the...

    Hoover Duster Model 200 find

Finishing and sanding Thank you rugsucker, glad you like it. Done at home with an acrylic paint straight out of a rattle can: Lots of (10 maybe) thick coats with gentle heat from a radiator in between over the course of a couple of days, finishing with an hour in the oven at 80c. I rub it back...

    Hoover Duster Model 200 find

Duster 200 with motor body and cap painted. I still have some work to do on the steelwork, fan and switch housings and replace the hose and bag connectors.

Qustions about a couple of brands and asbestos

I don't have any experience of those specific models but its unlikely vacuum cleaners contain asbestos. It usually turns up in things designed to get hot: Irons, electric fires, hair dryers and similar appliances.

    Hoover Duster Model 200 find

Thanks for response, (watched a couple of your youtube vids BTW, good stuff :) Yes, already washed and stored. I am not likely to find a factory one.

    Hoover Duster Model 200 find

Very rough Duster from ebay UK. Well used, in damp storage for 60 years apparently and with a (rotten) home made bag. Interesting in that it is a Canadian for UK market Duster. I always thought these were all badged Minor; in fact there is an old VL thread that shows pictures of a Canadian...

    Hoover pre-war rubber bumper/protectors

Hoover 825 original bumper I have since found a very low resolution photograph on the net showing a UK built 825 with it's original bumper front on. This appears to have the Hoover logo in the middle and what look likes cast-in triangular reinforcing bars round the rivet mount points. It's all...

    Hoover pre-war rubber bumper/protectors

I have not used Devcon specifically, though I have made many different kinds of moulds. I don't think the moulding or casting process is a problem. An accurate pattern and careful use of materials should give good results. Devcon is expensive here so I am considering a cheaper substitute which...

    Hoover pre-war rubber bumper/protectors

Wondering if anyone on the forum has ever tried making their own bumpers? Most of my pre-war 'cans need bumpers. I reckon it could be done fairly simply with a wooden pattern, a silicon mould and Devcon Flexane as the bumper material. I have already made an accurate wooden pattern for the...

1938 Hoover 875 (UK only model) handle question

My 875 came with a tall handle, like the 750 or 800, the second style of hoover rubber grip(Hoover embossed on either side, in the older script), fitted with the Hoover spring roller bag holder and pointy cable hooks. It was rebuilt at least once, date stamped 1951. I have seen the suggestion...
