How do you put a vacuum cleaner to sleep...?

Time . . . . to die (2 points if you get this reference above) I say kill it. Every POS vacuum should be killed. And don't worry about what society says about the waste in disabling a working vacuum cleaner. All shitty vacuums should die. Think about it. You're wasting electricity when...

The Kirby Company: Models Through the Years

Seeking 13" Nozzle for Legend II Hi Dan, Do you still have that Legend II with the 13" nozzle? I'm looking for that nozzle right now, if not the entire machine. If anyone has a suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

What is the worst vacuum from the past 20-ish years?

A nice plastic medal for Bill Hey Bill, My internet blacksmith is forging your new medal as I type! However, it's gonna be plastic instead of precious metal. After all, we're talking Hoover here. If it was a Kirby, it would be made of cheap polished aluminum. Someday, if I ever find enough...

    (8) Kirby's for sale in Atlanta

I've been trading emails with a retired Kirby distributor in Atlanta who has (8) Kirby's he is trying to sell on Craigslist. Ideally, he would like to sell the entire lot to one person, so I told him that this site was the best place for that: (1) 519 (1) VII (1) G6D (1) G7D (1) Omega 1CB (2)...

    My Panasonic Jet-flo MC-881

What makes this canister a "Jet Flo?" I found this old thread and I was wondering what makes this canister a Jet Flo? I'm familiar with the Jet Flo concept for Panasonic's clean-air uprights that they marketed at the same time. But, is there anything unique about this canister and it's "Jet...

Making the ds50 a bit more modern

Mini-emptor setup I've never seen before? Check out this link. It's for a DS50 without the original emptor. This doesn't look like a mini-emptor and it's made out of green plastic, so what the heck is it? Has anyone ever seen something like this?

Does anyone hot rod their Vacs?

Great repurposing of an Electrolux! Hey Huskyvacs, that Electrolux hot rod is awesome! That's the best repurposing of a canister vac I've seen so far. Did you build that? I'm not sure where I would put that thing, but I want one! By the way, I noticed you have a Hoover Z as the pic for your...

Making the ds50 a bit more modern

bnsd You really think so? Here's a YouTube link to a D80 with the plastic mini-emptor. To me, it looks more streamlined and less bulky than having the emptor hanging off the side like a boxy appendage. The Legend II uses the mini-emptor and that's an even bigger vac. Does that look off...

What is the worst vacuum from the past 20-ish years?

Tom's right, the Hoover Z is truly bad! I agree with Tom, that Hoover Z has to be the biggest POS I've ever seen. Definitely the Pontiac Aztek of vacuum cleaners. Like trying not to watch a really bad movie, but you just can't look away (Con Air, Showgirls, etc.). I think the beauty of this...

Making the ds50 a bit more modern

Do you think the mini-emptor looks hideous because it's plastic? That's why I suggested casting one out of aluminum because it would look factory. I suppose someone could come up with a way to retrofit a bag system onto the original D50 emptor setup, but wouldn't that be redundant? After all...

Making the ds50 a bit more modern

How about we make a cast aluminum Mini-Emptor? Hey Vacuumdevil and Rivstg1, I'm about to make the leap into D50 ownership and would like to go to a Hepa bag conversion. However, doesn't the mini-emptor look the best? After all, if you're going to convert to disposable bags, then do you...

Does anyone hot rod their Vacs?

Skateboard wheels on a Kirby Hey Blackheart, now you're talking! Improved performance is always a good thing. It may not be "factory," but I think it makes your vac worth more, not less. Another idea, why not skateboard wheels on a Kirby? Kirby wheels are so cheap and flimsy. Is wheel...

Does anyone hot rod their Vacs?

I'm new here, so I apologize in advance if this thread is redundant, but does anyone soup up their vacuum cleaners? I come from the high-end audio biz where modifying your gear is a right of passage. In fact, a cottage industry of tiny companies exists solely to upgrade amplifiers, preamps...

Seeking Kirby advice: Dual Sanitronic 50?

Beware of Craigslist/Who does the best Kirby reconditioning? Thanks for the 50 vs 80 advice. I think a 50 is the right one for me. I drove out to see a 50 on Craigslist for $100 that supposedly ran perfect. See the attached pic. What Kirby nut wouldn't jump at this vac for that price...

Lesinutah Wow, I totally blew that reference. I must be getting rusty in my old age. Let me try again: Lighten up, Francis. There, that's much better. Enjoy the link!

Saw this Panasonic brochure on ebay..

So, this Panasonic vac is not a Jet Flo, right? I don't see any Jet Flo markings and it appears to be a direct-air machine, just with the motor set further behind the brushroll and at a 90 degree angle, or am I mistaken?

What's the best 1.25" Dust Brush?

I've looked around on Ebay for that Aerus/Electrolux dust brush, but it's almost impossible to tell if what they're selling is a real one or aftermarket. If you have a link for a real one (preferably black, if possible), please share it. Does Riccar sell a good one? Maybe I should have bought...

Seeking Kirby advice: Dual Sanitronic 50?

I fixed vacuum cleaners at a Sew/Vac store when I was in jr. high back in the late '70s. We sold Hoovers and Eurekas, but reconditioned Kirbys were my favorite by far. Now, all these years later, I've been stricken by this vacuum cleaner disease and I'm seeing these damn things everywhere...

What's the best 1.25" Dust Brush?

I have everything I need for my brand new Symmetry Ultra Premium, except . . . . the world's best 1.25" dust brush. My accessory knowledge is fairly out of date, so does anyone have a suggestion?
