Think I found my next pet project...

Thank you, these were really great vacuum cleaners. As for Daniel B. Replogle, his first design was a non-electric upright. It featured a dual bellows system that was operated by the wheels.

Hoover300. If you could please enlarge this patent, I'd really appreciate it. My Air-Way patent book, like all others, are in storage, back in Pennsylvania, with me here in Arizona. I'd love to know the date that patent was filed. Thanks, Alex Taber.

This picture was taken at the V.C.C.C. convention in Los Angeles, California in the summer of 2005. Here are a few of the other machines that I brought with me. As you see, I like the really old ones.

Air-Way Chief. I have one of these. Actually both the vacuum cleaner, and a copy of that patent. These early Air-Way machines were a real workhorse. As to the cord winder, yes, Air-Way was the first, in fact, they were way ahead of many other other brands. Most people think both the cord...

Hey, that's a Modern Hygine in the far right corner. I have one, and love it. I have that model Air-Way too, as well as the first one, the Sanitation system.

Tom. My pets were my kids too, nice puppy, give Mr. zakk a hug from me. My favorite Hoover is the 541. I remember when I went to Los Angeles to see Stan, he lived next door to the apartment building owned by Mae West. I remember he took me to the basement where there were hundreds of boxes...

Actually it's an Ideal. One of the early ones, I think 1890. Dust Killer was a two tier machine that was introduced in 1909, and the first vacuum cleaner in the Sears catalog. The first electric in their catalog was the Eckhardt. I posted the Dust Killer before, but will post both now...

Tom, nice avatar. I'm talking about the dog. As you know, modern vacuum cleaners hold no interest to me, anything past 1960 is dull as dishwater. Well except for Electrolux, and Kirby, I'll, give them to the late 1960's 1205, and D-80 respectfully. And as you know my favorites are still the...

Thanks Tom: That kitchen was completely remolded before the owner put it up for sale. It was a dream house for sure, but what sold me was the real knotty pine and the cathedral ceilings. Never took pictures of the garage, which was my display room, but as you saw the V.C.C.C. clubhouse in...

Pictures of Dust Killer and Whirlwind, were not taken in that house in California. They predate it by about three years. Tom, do you know the joke about that house? It was on Prince Lane. A block away was Queen Avenue. Had I bought a house there I'd never be able to live it down. As it was, I...

Forgot the fireplace. This was also with the original carpet. As to the silver vacuum cleaner in the dining room it's a Dust Killer. Dates back to 1909, and was the first one in a Sears catalog. Cat next to it was a Japanese bobtail named Schoch, meaning small. I know you saw my Whirlwind, and...

I forgot Hans was there. That was a fun day. Yes that house was awesome, here are a few pictures. Some with the original carpeting, others with the new. A dark green. I really landed in a bucket of gold when I bought that house. You might like the second to last pic in this line up. That was...

Electrolux 137. Do you remember the day you brought Stan to my house in La Mesa, California? That was a fun day. Alex Taber.

Must be the Hoover Portable. Fantastic idea.

Expired patents. They are also a great way to learn the history of a company. This is especially true with the machines that never got past the prototype stage. And this isn't just the vacuum cleaners themselves, this also goes for attachments, bag designs, and a myriad of other things.
