    Kirby Light Bulb Question-

1156 LED bulbs I ordered a pair of 1156 LED automotive bulbs from Amazon to try in my Classic III and Legend II. They looked the same as the original bulb but would not fit in deep enough to twist and lock into the socket. The large center bump shaped contact at the end of the bulb appears to...

    A Three Dollar Royal!

I haven't invested a lot of time in it yet. I just did a quick clean and polish, about 15-20 minutes. It will take a couple of hours or so to sand out the deep scratches followed by a final polish.

    A Three Dollar Royal!

Thanks Steve! I use Mothers as do many other members. A used Barkeeper Friend powder cleaner first to clean off the liver spots followed by Mothers. Later I will sand down the deeper scratches with sand paper and polish again. I use a polishing wheel on a high speed drill sometimes with...

    A Three Dollar Royal!

Most of my collection has come from my local Goodwill Outlet store. This weekend I found a Royal 801 marked down to $3.00! It was manufactured December 1986, so it appears to be made toward the end of the long model run (1953- March 1987). It was complete except that a hose adaptor was in place...

    Compact Electra C7

I am now a declared Compact/Tristar fan and collector. I just found this green C7 at my local Goodwill outlet store. I was originally just buying the hose for my C5 but decided to take the vacuum too when I saw that it was better than average condition with minimal paint chips and a complete...

    Exceptional Stark branded Royal find

I found it the Goodwill outlet store in Milwaukie. I have found most of my collection there, lots of Royal's, Kirby's, and some Compact/Tristar's and Filter Queens's. It's a great resource for parts and missing pieces too. Mike

    Restoring plastichrome trim

I have been restoring a 1993 Tristar CXL. Like most of these I have found the plastic Tristar badge was chipped and in 2 pieces, but at least it was complete. I have painted it with Krylon premium metallic original chrome paint, using several light coats. It looks pretty good but even after...

    Exceptional Stark branded Royal find

Last week I found another great vacuum at my local Goodwill outlet store, where I have found most of my collection. It's a Stark branded Royal, model 5000NA built in April of 1988, making it 28 years old today. Although I have a large Royal collection I haven't had any interest in Stark...

Royal 886 or Royal Classic 4000?

Either model would be a great cleaner. From my experience, comparing the two comes down to the motors. I believe the 4000 has a 10.5amp motor and they are extremely powerful but also extremely noisy screamers! I have an earlier 886 from 1987. It has a 6 amp motor that I find to be great balance...

What are you oldest most cherished vacuums?

Here are my three: A late 1930's Eureka model M, a fully restored 1949 Kirby 509, and a Royal 215. The Eureka and Royal are in thier beautiful original condition except for cleaning and polishing.

Recently I have been interested in Compacts and Tristars. Here is a 1993 CXL I am completing. I chrome painted the side badge and have ordered an exsaust cap and new bumper since I could not completely remove the dark stains near the motor. I so am working on a Compact C2 and C5.

Most of my collection is metal uprights, most of those are Royals, my favorites. But I have been adding some tanks and canisters laltely. Not pictured are a late 1940s Kenmore Commander like my Grandmother had decades complete Filter Queen Limited Edition. Here is my Royal 4650.

    So...Daily Drivers? (pre 1995)

Here are my daily drivers- I use the 1990 Kirby Legend II on the first floor on a regular basis. I enjoy the relaxing sound it makes, and although it is heavier than all of my other vacs, it glides smoothly almost effortlesly when adjusted correctly. I use the two Royals mostly upstairs. The...

Restored Kirby 509 completed a second time

Mid 2014 I completed restoration of a Kirby 509, so I thought. A couple of months ago I found and installed a new motor that sounds and runs like new and an original metal brush roll. Then I found some original rubber wheels in good shape and replaced the new black plastic ones. Last night I...

    Canister sounds

Anybody know if some canister vacuums have a slight high pitched wine sound when the run? Is this normal or a symptom of something going wrong? In particular I hear it in my TriStar MG1 that overall is pretty quiet and in excellent condition. A couple of my Royal uprights seem to have a similar...

Whats your quietest and loudest vacuum?

Quietest are my new Tristar MG1 and my Filter Queen Limited Edition (112B). Loudest are my Royal 8.9 and 9 amp metal screamers! My Kirby Legend II not the quietest or loudest, but it has a relaxing sound that makes it pleasent to use each week. Mike

    Tri Srar body parts question

Anybody know if orginial model-specific cabinet parts are still available for Tri Star MG-1"s? I would like like to replace the rear cover for the exhaust filter but with one that exactly matches the paint finish. I know some manufactures substitie parts from newer models but aren't...
