Neptune Aquafilter vacuum - a childhood find!

Hi all, So, a bit of backstory first. Back in about 1998 (I think!) my godparents bought a water filtration vacuum from an in-home demonstrator. At the time, they had a Vax 2000 suction only cleaner and thick carpets. It was the first time I'd ever seen any kind of water filtration vacuum and...

1986 Electrolux TwinTurbo Electronic Deluxe Z561 Upright Vacuum Cleaner - Restoration

the much later turbo2 Actually, that particular Turbo2 (the z1065) isn't that much later. They came out in 89 and ran until late 1990 when they were replaced by the Glider. The 1065 and more basic 1055 sold so well in back-stock (there were a few exclusives around at this time too, which...

What was you parents first vacuum!????

My Mum first got married in 1974 to her first husband, so I don't know what her first vacuum was. She didn't marry my Dad until 1988 and at the time had a Hoover Turbopower U2332

    One sorry looking Sebo....

I've no idea, I don't think she really had a clue what I was talking about to be honest lol

    One sorry looking Sebo....

Yikes that's a bit knackered!! Leaving work yesterday one of the cleaners was vacuuming in reception with a Mitie branded Numatic. It stank to high Heaven of old dust and wasn't picking up a damn thing. I had to point out "I think that vacuum is full, love". She didn't even notice it wasn't...

    Filter queen

Henry's with the old style powernozzle were fantastic. Sadly PN cylinders never really took off in the UK. Mainly because they were much more expensive than both the equivalent suction cleaner & corresponding upright, so people tended to go for those over the PN models.

    Filter queen

A really good friend of mine has a Filter Queen (or "Filthy Queen" as we call it). I can't say I'm impressed with it. Suction is poor in comparison to other cylinders/tank cleaners in the UK - Numatic cleaners knock socks off FQ in terms of suction. The hose is long, build quality is excellent...

Modern well-rounded vacuums - What to like?

I wouldn't have said the hard floor test was particularly accurate either. Lets not forget that a Vax upright with no brushroll on/off controls got a higher rating on hard floors than a straight suction Henry - we both know which is better on hard floors.

Modern well-rounded vacuums - What to like?

testing is done in one of 4 designated testing factories That's new! When the testing first came in, it was down to the manufacturer to carry out. I fully support the wattage cap, but the ratings are ridiculous and the fact that the Kirby crashed and burned in testing just goes to show you...

Modern well-rounded vacuums - What to like?

I wouldn't even say it's about bagged vs. bagless, it's more about quality and efficiency. Vacuums are cheaper than ever to buy new now and the majority of the public seem to expect this. Prices haven't changed much. To use my mother as an example, she doesn't ever want to spend more than £100...

Modern well-rounded vacuums - What to like?

It sounds like you made a good decision - a cylinder/canister vac with a powerhead is always a good option for homes with multiple floortypes. Personally, and I'm not sure how things are in the US at the moment, but the vacuum market is very stale currently. Once upon a time, you could spend...

What happened to the UK members?

You're damn rude Marcus, you know that? No wonder the UK guys don't post so much anymore with comments like that. The UK meet up's tend to happen a couple of times a year and then smaller, more local meet up's happen at various times. There's no set schedule, just whenever people are free. Not...

What happened to the UK members?

Prime example...Matt just had to message me and ask if it was me who posted on this thread! Lack of identity, I guess. Although maybe some people will like the anonymity, it doesn't really happen with the UK collectors as we all socialise outside of the internet now. Both the joy and the...

What happened to the UK members?

Hey Matt - I'm the same! When I joined here, I was still a student and had way more free time. I now have a house, partner and career to think about. Hobbies often take a sideline and the convenience of Facebook being on my phone makes things easier. Plus, I don't know about you, but I find...

What happened to the UK members?

A combination of factors really. I guess the biggest thing is that there's a UK specific Facebook group up and running which gets a lot of posters. Also bear in mind the UK is very small in comparison to the US, most of the UK collectors now know eachother in person and tend to keep in touch...

    UK Electrolux through the years

Do you know Lux brand? They sell vacuums door to door only We don't have those here, but I'm pretty sure there's a connection with Electrolux. I think they're more related to Aerus Lux machines that the US members have.

    UK Electrolux through the years

I got this recently - this style fits between the earlier 502S and the Twin Turbo style cleaners and is dated 1982.

A few more for the collection

And finally, not a particularly significant or collectible model, but one of significant value to me. A late Electrolux Contour 1000. This is the cleaner my Nana had before she died in 1999.
