    The Kirby 2R is restored!

Well, after seemingly forever, I finally finished restoring my Kirby 2R. If you remember, I got this on Ebay last summer right before the convention and it was shipped very poorly but survived the trip intact somehow. This is probably one of my rarest vacuums I own right now, next to my Utility...

    Another rare vacuum

Alex: The serial number plate does not have a patent number, it just says "Pats Pend". Below that is says LIC JAS B. KIRBY. I have seen that same patent you mention and I'm sure it was made from that patent but like you said, the handle is different. Norm: Yes, the previous owner lived in Ohio...

    Another rare vacuum

Well, I don't believe I'm actually able to say this, but I now own a Kirby Utility Hand Vacuum. I bought it on Ebay so you know I didn't get it cheap. Even though its the most I've paid for a vacuum ever, I still thought it would sell for more than it did. The seller used to work at Kirby and...

    Kirby forum website

Surprisingly James Kirby invented a vacuum with an onboard hose for attachments in 1953. I found the patent for it at Google patents. I wonder why he never sought to produce it? It must have had issues or the world just wasn't ready for onboard attachments in the 50's. I have found other "new"...

    Guide for Patent Dates

Hello everyone, my father gave me a little card with patent numbers and the approximate date of the patent. I thought some of you might like to know when some or your old vacuums were patented. My dad got this from an auction company I believe. To use it find the largest patent number on the...

    Kirby 561

The toe touch adjusters are not hard to replace at all. There are two screws below the axle that hold it in. You just have to find another axle and your set. If that's all that is wrong with it I wouldn't let it stop you from buying it. Hope that helps. And welcome to the site. Chad Cunningham

    Question about grease...

I have heard some people mention they use only Moybdenum grease when servicing their machines. I have tried to find it at the store and am a little perplexed. Its not really easy to find and then when I do find it is in something with Lithium in it as well. So can anyone guide me on what...

    Kirby "Miracle Head" Attachment

I've never heard of a different belt being used for the floor polishers. I just looked in a parts diagram I have from Kirby and it looks like the belts have a different part number for the floor nozzle and floor polisher. So I guess its possible it is different. I wonder if you can still buy the...

    1935 kirby

Uh, you are mistaken, that Kirby is not a Model C, it's a Model R. The middle part of the handle being aluminum is one clue and the cord going into the machine but no switch is the other clue. I was the one who was the second highest bidder. I figured 1223.00 would be enough to win, but I guess...

    Hoover Convertible U4725

Yes, there is an adapter for the hose that attaches right below the beater bar like the old Eureka's had. I think they used a similar setup on the Concepts too.

    kirby, what the ?

THis is a home based business that uses a Kirby G model to clean mattresses in homes. They install an ultraviolet light on the front to kill bacteria and mites. I think its a joke and I can't see it doing much at all. They probably use the Kirby since its made to clean matresses anyways with the...

    The Twingle strikes again...

Mystery dustpan attachment... Dave, could your mystery attachment belong to a Black & Decker Collector hand vacuum? It looks to me like it adapts the nozzle end of one of those to accept a hose for using a crevice tool or the like. It looks about the right color for the Collector or a similar...

    really intresting GE

I have one just like it. I brought it to last year's convention because I thought it was a pretty rare machine. The bag on the one in the auction looks just like mine and I am pretty sure it is an original bag. Mine also has the tool kit with the cardboard carrying box. There are several...
