Yeah, she could use some love but that's why you're working on it! Fan looks good, from what I can see at least. You could try pushing back on the fan and turning the spindle, I've done that in emergencies and 95% of the time it worked. How does everything else sound? Love these machines...

Super-sweeper, oh yes I know! I also love the fact that this machine doesn't creak and crack when you pick it up, change the bag, or block the suction like 99.9% of the vacuums made today. It is a bit heavy but it's built like a tank... most likely why the one I had during my childhood lasted...

Nevermind, after searching I found out that the rear wheels slide out the bottom to reveal four screws that hold the deck lid on. Hope this helps the next poor unfortunate soul who has to pull one of these apart! :-P Rich

I've always liked the SEB236 which I upgraded from the 228 with my S8 Marin (forgot which Wessel Werk number it is).  I also liked the good old Hoover Quadraflex Powermatic on the Dimension 1000. If I use the Hoover WindTunnel powernozzle does a decent job.  I wish it had manual height...
