    Dyson DC24 Brushroll Motor

Brushroll motor Thanks for the speedy reply, Parwaz... :-) I'm mystified as to why the (permanent magnet) motor tests 'open circuit' at any and all positions of the commutator against the brushes. If there is no thermal fuse, this would indicate that ALL of the windings must have failed...

    Diesel heads, any one?

Sulzer I've seen a couple of YouTube videos of these. Very impressive!! Somehow, though (IMHO) they lack the 'animation' of the big opposed piston engines, with the 'stately' motion of their upper pistons... Perhaps it's just me, but I find the new 'supersize' single-action engines a little...

    Dyson DC24 Brushroll Motor

A friend has asked me to 'look at' his Dyson DC24, as it 'won't pick anything up'. A cursory examination reveals no brushroll rotation, and dismantling the floorhead reveals a brushroll motor which measures 'open circuit'. The motor brushes are in good order, and there is no sign / smell of...

    Diesel heads, any one?

Diesel head Yep..... Count me in!!!! Like Tolivac, I used to enjoy being near the larger stationary generator engines which were in our telephone exchanges. If you want really BIG diesels, check out some of the larger marine engines. The U.K. firm of Doxford and Sons Ltd made some impressive...

What music do you listen to?

@ Tolivac (Reply#32) You may wish to have a listen to the only 'regular' radio programming I know of for Organ fans..... Go to www.bbc.co.uk/radio/programmes/ At the top of the page there is a 'find programmes' box.... Type in 'Organist Entertains'.... It's a regular programme of music...

Any one knows how to service a Junkers W 250 k P31 Gas Geyser

No gas to burner I have no knowledge of this model of geyser, but this is usually a sign of a thermocouple failure. Is it a 'pilot light' type or electronic ignition?? The more information the members have, the more likely it is that someone will have solved a similar problem before. All best...

What music do you listen to?

Music While I like a lot of the 'Classic' Rock/Prog/Metal music from the '70s and '80s, I mostly listen to Baroque or Renaissance music these days (especially the Organ repertoire).... The modern stuff is just too simple, and fails to provide any 'musical satisfaction', if you get my meaning...

    Dryer Cable Perished?

Overheated plug Don't panic!! A tumble dryer loads a 13amp plug to the max. Your problem there is that the clip holding the fuse on the back of the live pin has loosened and the current has cooked it. The plug is unserviceable, just replace it with a good quality one (preferably second hand...

Hoover Turbopower 3 U2880 to give away (UK)

Free-to-a-good-home U2880 I vaguely recall giving one of those away, too..... ;) Enjoy Dave T

    Homemade vacuum attachments

Photograph, as promised I have no idea what machine the smaller hose is from.... It was just one I had lying around. Simple device, crude, but effective. The area airflow inside the canister is low enough that even very fine metal particles settle out. All best Dave T

    Homemade vacuum attachments

Swarf collector I recently made one of these, to keep scrap metal separate from workshop dirt, and help keep metal particles off the felt filter of my Bosch. Yes, it works very well. A photograph will be appended as soon as I next go to the workshop. All best Dave T

    eBay tragedy

Packaging I once spent a few weeks working in a freight depot. The things I saw there beggared belief. The item you are packing may be fairly light, and you may feel that it will not burst it's box in transit. The problems start when your lightweight item is followed off the conveyor by a Ford...

    Dehumidifiers

Ebac They have a great reputation (in the U.K., anyway). Keep the heat exchanger clean (job for a vacuum cleaner), and you won't go far wrong...... You could try opening a window or two slightly, to cure the problem, but not in a room with a dehumidifier installed.... ;) All best Dave T

Bosch Injunction Against Dyson & Energy Labels

Age of house (and that's not music!!) No, Parwaz, mine was built shortly after WW2. It doesn't have the high ceilings usually associated with Victorian homes, but is plenty draughty enough that I rarely have problems with condensation on windows. Victorian 'two up / two down' cottages were...

    Daewoo RC-350BK

I've just been given one of these, about 12 months old, because it's lady owner found it 'too noisy'. I have used it at the lady's home a few times, and it does, indeed, have a rather high pitched motor whine. Is this normal for this type of vac, or is it likely to be suffering after clearing up...

Bosch Injunction Against Dyson & Energy Labels

'Window Vacuum' At risk of 'hijacking' the thread....... I have seen advertisements for these. It appears that they are a 'new invention' for removing condensation from windows. I am fortunate enough to live in a pre-1980 house (by a good many years), so if I have any condensation, I just open...

    Lowrey Prestige Organ...

'Organ 'fix'' "guess I will get my organ "fix" from CD's I have and videos on YouTube." Much the same for me. I am, however, lucky in that two of our local churches have occasional 'free' organ recitals, weloming donations towards the upkeep. Home organs are quite rare on this side of the...

    The 1958 Church Organ Report

Organs I love to hear the sound of a good organ, and I'm fortunate that we have a couple of good organs in my locality (both pipe organs).... I managed to get a redundant Livingston 2M+P electronic a few years ago, which now resides in my living room. I can 'knock out a tune', but I'm by no...

    amp talk

Amperes, Watts and efficiency At a fixed supply voltage and roughly constant power factor for a series wound motor, The current draw will roughly equate with the power drawn from the mains supply. Unfortunately, this has little equivalence with the amount of dirt which a cleaner will extract...
