Another (of many) eBay Pet Peeves

Ebay listings 'NOT xxxxx', etc. As Whirlpolf says, these are amongst the MOST annoying 'Ebay-isms'!! Do these people REALLY think that anyone who has had their time wasted by these pathetic, misleading, time waster listings is actually going to BUY from them as and when they may want something...

    gold/brown dyson dc07

Nice 'Before' Pics It's clearly a Dyson with a suntan. Perhaps more 'factor 50' would have helped. ;-) Keep us posted as to what happens next....... All best Dave T

Free* to a good home, UK (Stoke-on Trent)

New home found I delivered the DC07 to the premises of CitroenBX this morning. Hopefully he will append a few pictures in due course. You were right, Parwaz786, apparently it IS supposed to be lavender and silver, the amount and even-ness of the discolouration being unusual!! We may get to see...

Free* to a good home, UK (Stoke-on Trent)

I have a curious feeling of 'Deja Vu'..... ;-) I have just saved from the skip a Dyson DC07 'Animal', which has lived in a friend's shed for several years. I've plugged it in and run the motor for a few seconds.... It runs, but the bearings sound dry. The (soleplate??) which covers the...

    Allen organs

To connect or not to connect? As a 'sound professional' on this side of the 'pond' I can advise here..... I would suggest that you plug the trailing plug first into a loudspeaker and see if you get sound.... If not, then it will probably be a 'line' level signal for use with a mixing desk. If...

Need your advice on the Henry range

Henry & Co. Benn... As a non-collector, but 'Henry' owner, I can tell you this.... The Manufacturer is 'Numatic', the Models are Henry, Hetty, Charles, etc. etc. As 'canister' vacuums, all of them should be able to handle any small amounts of water which may get through your extractor, AFAIK...

    Why canisters?

@ Chad (reply #37) At risk of hijacking the thread...... 'Compressed air quick-connects in every room'... KUDOS!!!!! AND a 5hp shop vac!! You obviously live in the bachelor pad that I dream of!! I also live in a cross between a house and a machine shop, with a bit of Frankenstein's...

    Baking with lard?

Another lard lover I use lard for most baking / frying. Almost the only exception is softening onions, for which butter is the rule. I don't have margarine in the house. ;-) All best Dave T

What does an arcing motor sound like?

Arcing motor brushes The sound is usually a buzzing, fizzing sound, varying in loudness with the motor loading. There is usually an accompanying 'characteristic odour' of hot carbon. If you've ever heard an arc welder in use, it's quite similar, especially when the welder breaks the arc. A...

    Who loves cats :) ido

I thought EVERYONE loves cats!! I annoy people in my locality by regularly saying " C, A, T, spells 'CUTE'!!" You may want to try it, and see if you get the same kind of weird looks that I do... ;-) All best Dave T

Collecting? What was the first things?

Tape machines I forgot to mention (and can't edit).... I have five examples of the fine '7000 Series' Instrumentation (tape) Recorders made by Messrs. Stress Engineering here in the U.K. These multi-speed machines used 1" tape to record (between 14 and 42 channels, depending on model) of...

Collecting? What was the first things?

Collections No idea what I first collected.... Probably seashells and shiny stones. These days its sound mixing consoles and Tektronix 7000 series oscilloscopes. I have about 4 vacuum cleaners, but that's just for redundancy!! ;-) All best Dave T

    Vintage Keyboards

Pipe Organs and keyboards Like many here, I LOVE the sound(s!!) of a good Pipe Organ. Also, like many here, I don't have the space for one!!. I did bid for one (and win!!) on Ebay, but the seller had set a very high reserve and eventually scrapped it rather than accept a reasonable price. :'(...

Help ~ Suppressor removal from Lux 616E

3-wire capacitor Personally, I'd leave well alone, but if you really want to remove it (which may cause the motor brushes to wear more rapidly) just cut all three wires and remove it..... The two black wires will be to live and neutral of the motor, and the white will go to earth. The case...

    Getting rid of noxious weeds

Two Cents' worth 'Electric Patio Brush' Looks like one can be made from an old Black and Decker drill with a wire brush in it, tied to a broom handle. If in doubt, IMPROVISE!! ;-) 'Roundup + Washing up liquid' The washing up liquid works as a 'wetting agent', allowing the weedkiller to be more...

    Removed the U1012's suppressor

Suppressor removal Whilst removing the suppressor won't have any immediate ill effects (apart from probably generating LOADS of radio interference), you can expect more arcing at the brushes, with consequently faster brush wear, and more commutator burning. Keep an eye on it ;) All best Dave T

    Dyson DC24 Brushroll Motor

Warranty and/or lifespan I'll check out the warranty status. :) As for a design life of 60 hours or so, that wouldn't surprise me at all. I recall hearing (many years ago) that the 'design life' of the original (D500, etc) Black and Decker electric drills was 1 hour!! The logic being that you...

anyone have a pic of this vacuum?

Styling 'They just don't make cool looking stuff like that anymore.' More's the pity... :-( Would it really cost manufacturers SO much more to sell us an item of beauty as well as functionality?? Please discuss!!! ;-) All best Dave T
