    z60?

Hey Si, I believe the Z60 was contemporary to the Z62 as a cheapie model, and was replaced by the redesigned Z64. I guess your nan had an earlier version, contemporary to the Z48 or 55. These lower priced luxes seem very rare now!

    Hoover Concept I/II info

Weapons of Mess Dustruction... what a great phrase, Dave! I think I'm going to have to start using that <br On the subject of onboard tools, I believe Jack's site has a 1930s Hoover patent for just that! It's a shame it never made it to the market then, as after having a go on my mum's Dyson...

    hooverette

I do like the Hooverette, even though it isn't the most effective of Hoover's cleaners! Design magazine critiqued it in 1961 - the main bugbears as I recall was the difficulty in winding the flex, the carry strap slipping off ones shoulders (they rectified this with a camera strap pad), the...

1977 UK Hoover Junior Deluxe advert

I found this one on a youtube compilation, and have extracted and reposted it. Enjoy! Hoover Flying Saucer??!

i'm scared! Reminds me of one of those Egyptian deities with the body of a human and the head of an animal! That hose does look way short though. Wonder if it was punctured and then cut down? Does the floor tool have the floating brush? I'm not keen on them, as the seem to leave a gap between...

    The North Canton October Haul....

Great array of finds! Maybe I should move to Perivale to see if there's any rich pickin's round there! Great to get such a mint plastic convertible, and two model 69s that make one good machine with some spare parts to boot. Those Concept Two's look like great fun! Wish we got them over here. Si

Another Vintage Hoover for the Emporium!

Let 'em think you're mad! Hell, you've probably got the finest collection of pre-war Hoover cleaners in the UK! I know what you mean though, I just tend to tell people I run an online museum, which kinda justifies it. Mind you, I give much less of a damn about what people think now. It can be...

Another Vintage Hoover for the Emporium!

Brilliant, Jack! Fancy it being so local too! When I started collecting, I'd never have imagined that so many elderly Hoovers would have survived - I reckon in five years time they'll outnumber surviving The Ones hehehe. Can't wait to see her after you've worked your magic! Nice choice of DVD...

    shakeout bags and antistatics?

I've been using my Hoover 160 with its shakeout bag only since I got it - previously I've fitted paper bags inside shakeout bag cleaners for the sake of convenience, but it spoils the look of the bag when not in use. One thing that concerns me is the amount of dirt that stays stuck inside the...

    Air-Way Upright Trouble...

Hey Kyle, I wonder if it's a build of of muck on the insulation between the commutator bars, or wear to the bars meaning the insulation is now level with the bars? I found this from a very useful website - the symptoms you mention sound similar! "The typical universal motor will have between...

    Hoover Concept I/II info

Yes Pete, I think a C1 brochure pops up on here as POD from time to time, and mentions those big wheels <br Mark, suprised your poor aunt didn't pull a muscle! I know my DAM Power Drive is hell to push with the drive disengaged, especially on maximum suction. Physiotherapy ahoy <br I did see a...

    Hoover Concept I/II info

Very interesting thread! Thanks for asking about this, Casey, I've learnt a lot from this tonight! Concept Ones are very rare in the UK, I only know one collector over here with any. Looks like that flourish only appeared on the Power Drives, Pete's blue C1 looks like a different model to...

    Air-Way Upright Trouble...

What kind of racket does it make? Rumbles? Rattles? Screeching? Scraping? If it can be run partially stripped, it might help you pin down what is (or isn't) causing the noise. Hope you suss it out! Si

Dave 'n Petes Micro Meet avec pictures

Hooray for mini meets! Looks like the Canadian chapter of VCCC is up and running hehehe. Blimey, what a lot of great finds! That must be some store. Looks like you both had an excellent time together, it's always brilliant fun to meet up with like-minded individuals! Si

Modded Senior/Convertible -- improved tool suction

This is it with the tool converter in place - you can see what I'm aiming at here.

Modded Senior/Convertible -- improved tool suction

After the other Simon mentioned the tool suction on Seniors/Convertibles, I thought I'd have a go at seeing what I could do to improve it. Using a strip of metal, with some plastic on top and a bit of gaffer (duct) tape, this is what I rigged up. It still isn't a sealed suction system, but it...

    Poorly Turbopower U1222 :( :(

Hey Rob, The carbons are worth checking, but it's also worth seeing if the armature rotates freely. I've had a couple of machines where the motor speed would fluctuate for no apparent reason, one was a Junior where a load of hair had tangled up between the front bearing and the fan (very stiff...

    pic of the day

Tom, that's very interesting! I'd love to know how that would have worked, I guess it must have been rather complicated! Si, that toolkit is for a 612. Technically it wasn't a Senior, as that name wasn't used until the 1960s - early 652s were known as the 'Hoover De Luxe', and earlier machines...

    pic of the day

Hey Charles, apart from the shakeout back and a heavy-duty (and presumably longer) cord, I believe the 334 was no different mechanically to the other Convertibles. I think you make an interesting point about the cheaper machines. I noticed that in the Consumer's Report posted on here from 1959...
