    Panasonic Dual Sweep

I have never seen this Panasonic model! That’s unique! The closest thing I can remember was a silver Panasonic Dual Sweep with a two short suction hoses leading to each side of the brush roll housing - looked like a Martian or a deep sea diver’s helmet! But it also had two brush rolls. Would...

Any tricks of the trade anyone wants to share about vacuums?

Forgot to mention…this trick works for classic old-fashioned fan-first uprights. Really does not apply to bag-first uprights where the bag is inflated by the suction motor at the bottom of a bag chamber.

Any tricks of the trade anyone wants to share about vacuums?

I don’t own a vacuum shop, but one trick I have for bagged upright vacuums is: always bring the handle down to the operating position before turning on the vacuum. And always turn off the vacuum before returning the handle to the upright’s storage position. This way you put less strain on the...

The Electrolux 502 cleaner - cleans better, faster

These were sold as Dometics in Canada and Vikings in the USA. After acquiring Eureka in 1976, Sweden’s AB Electrolux was still restricted in using that brand name in both countries. In the USA, they were able to sell these European Electrolux cleaners through their Husqvarna power tool...

    Some of my Progress vacuums

Nice classic tv ad with animation! In the 1960’s, a standard tv commercial was 60 seconds long….so maybe at the start of European television, they even allowed 90 second commercials! Most ads today are only 15 seconds long….the world has gotten faster!

    Eureka "Color-Pak" 1945-1995

Wow! That’s news to me! What a find!!! Those 8 foot hoses are really the length we need even today!

Eureka Model 1424 Types & Observations

Eureka’s Dial-a-Nap Upright Model 2042 turned into the company’s most dependable and widely sold model in the mid 1970’s. It was the top-rated upright in Consumer Reports 1973 testing and earned a “Best Buy” award by CR because it provided excellent value for the price. It had just enough...

Vintage Westinghouse Upright on “I Love Lucy”

Thanks for that info Patrick. So I wonder how Westinghouse allowed “I Love Lucy” to show several of their products on the show in those early years. Viewers can clearly see the Westinghouse name on the refrigerator in the kitchen and on the upright and canister vacuums in the two episodes that...

    New Miele

It’s an excellent dusting brush! Because I have a suction-only Miele C3, I can take off the hose handle and attach the Universal Dusting Brush directly to the hose. I power up the motor to full suction because the wide mouth of the brush allows me to do that. I have used it for cupboards...

    New Miele

Is there a way to tighten the two swivel joints on Miele’s Universal dusting brush? Mine seems to have loosened up a lot and it does not want to maintain the position in which I set it. Any ideas?

Vintage Westinghouse Upright on “I Love Lucy”

This is the first time I have ever seen this episode! I very well remember the episode of I Love Lucy in which she is sold a Westinghouse tank cleaner by a door-to-door salesman. I also know that the show had some sponsorship contract with Westinghouse in the early 1950’s. But I never saw...

    GE Model CS 12 B

I am pretty sure we had a similar green one when I was a young toddler growing up in Montreal. More pictures would be helpful. I think 1965 is too late - more likely 1959.

    Personal Experiences with Vacuum Lifespans

Our vacuums were never really abused when I was growing up…our Eureka 260 Super Automatic Upright lasted 15 years (1959-1974), and our Eureka Cordaway Rugulator 2083 Upright lasted another 15 years (1974-1989). My most recent acquisitions are heading into their 11th year: Hoover Platinum...

    New lightweight upright vacuum needed

I’d recommend the Kenmore Intuition Lift Away bagged upright. It’s got pretty good test results by Consumer Reports and is very lightweight - I think only 14 pounds. You can also shut off the brush roll for bare floor cleaning.

    SEBO Balance A1

They should have made a bagged version like the Numatic Quick.

My Return After A Long Hiatus & Why Bagged Straight-Suction Canisters Are Awesome

Yes…the deluxe Guard L1 (large) looks interesting - possibly Miele’s answer to the Sebo Airbelt as it diffuses the exhaust in the side bumpers as well. But I would bet that the well-known powerful Miele airflow is not that good on this new LI: the path of the air is very complicated and not...

My Return After A Long Hiatus & Why Bagged Straight-Suction Canisters Are Awesome

I can’t wait to see how Miele’s new Guard canister line performs when they finally make it to North Anerican stores. I am especially curious about the S1 compact canister with the improved dust bag dock under the hood. Rumour has it that Sebo will also be releasing a new line up in 2025 -...

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

The central role that Sears Kenmore played in the history of American vacuum cleaners is really quite amazing when you think of it. Along with Electrolux and Hoover and Eureka, Kenmore really contributed a wealth of ideas and features that made vacuum cleaning so much easier over the decades...

    Miele Guard series

Yes…it looks like you will only get a full set of normal Miele attachments with the compact Guard S1….with the tools stored outside at the base of the hose. Which may make that model the preferred choice among the three.

    Westinghouse Canister Vacuum Cleaner

Great pictures! Great story! YouTube is flooded now with I Love Lucy episodes, and you can see that the refrigerator in the kitchen has the Westinghouse name on it. And we all know the famous vacuum episode where she buys a Westinghouse cylinder cleaner from a door-to-door salesman!
