    Canadian Hoover Junior Convertible

It looks like that catalogue page was from a small catalogue store called Consumers Distributing which we had in Canada in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Here’s a summary from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumers_Distributing

    Hoover Clean Sweep Award 1998

I wonder which Hoover model was given to Hingis. Since she is from Switzerland, it would only make sense that she received a 220 volt cleaner fitted with the correct plug for Swiss electrical outlets. Curious to know….

    Around $300 budget

If you want a lighter upright, the new Kenmore Bagged LiftAway Intuition BU4050 can’t be beat. It weighs only 15 pounds and only costs around $200. This Rose Gold version also has a hair eliminator feature that cleans hair off the brush roll. Highly rated by Consumer Reports for good carpet...

    Around $300 budget

I’d go for a Kenmore Elite Pet Friendly 31150 bagged upright. It’s top-rated in Consumer Reports and is a Best Buy at only $270. It’s very good for deep carpet cleaning and you can shut off the brush roll to clean bare floors.

Scans Of 1991 Eureka Style N Bag

Those bags are for Eureka’s Mighty Mite Two compact canisters from the early 1990’s. The neat thing about Mighty Mite Twos is that you can check and change the bag without removing the hose. Note: these will not work in Mighty Mite Ones or Threes - only Mighty Mite II.

    Eureka Ironsides

If you Google “Beaumark vacuum advertisement” you will find a Canadian newspaper ad from 1987 showing the identical Eureka power nozzle. So your Beaumark Roto-Matic Power Team is probably from around that year. Probably one of the last Canadian-made Eureka canisters from the Onward...

Late '80s & Early '90s Eureka Spec Sheets & Catalogs

Thanks for these great images Paul! One of them shows a strange headlight carved out of a smooth Boss motor head - something I have never seen! Very very rare! Fascinating that the 1600 Sweet Sixteen canister body survived way into the mid 1980’s. That’s almost a 20 year run!

Lewyt “Big Wheel” 1955 Corporate How To Film

Glad everyone is enjoying this Lewyt film. Question: is it not a bit weird that the actress takes out that jar of moth crystals from the bedside table? Who the $&@?! keeps moth crystals in the drawer next to your bed? 😳😳😳

Lewyt “Big Wheel” 1955 Corporate How To Film

And here’s Part Three… There is no way our current dusting brushes are as soft as the ones made in the 1950’s. The last decently-soft brush I owned was the one that came with my Kenmore Progressive canister.

Lewyt “Big Wheel” 1955 Corporate How To Film

I just found a really neat vintage film produced in 1955 by the Lewyt Corporation called “How to Clean Your House and Like It”!!!! It features their Big Wheel vacuum and shows how to use it in a variety of ways. Part one of three is linked here…I’ll try to post the other two links as well...

    Silver Infused HEPA bags

I don’t know…I’m a bit of a hypochondriac, and the thought of me inhaling microscopic silver particles from the exhaust of my vacuum scares me a bit. And maybe I should be concerned about those charcoal Hepa filters as well. All I know is that when my vacuum’s exhaust air begins to smell of...

    Untangling Eureka USA's "Christmas Lights"—1957-1982 ...

Hi Paul! That table is great! Kudos to you! Love the colour-coding in the first column…really helps to trigger an image of the vacuum in the reader’s mind!

    iona electric broom Vacuum

There is also a connection between Iona Canada and Dyson in the early 1990’s. I think Iona bought the Canadian Switson vacuum factory in Welland, Ontario (near Niagara Falls) and then bought the rights to create a bagless Dyson cyclonic vacuum for introduction to the Canadian market. I think...

    iona electric broom Vacuum

At some point in the 1980’s, Canadian Regina products changed names to Iona. There seems to be some connection to Smith-Corona Marchant because our SCM Procter Silex kitchen appliances also became Iona appliances. It all seems to have been a result of the Free Trade Agreement between Canada...

In need of Eureka style N bags!

The three versions of Eureka’s Mighty Mite compact canisters each takes a different style of bag. They are not interchangeable. The first version came out in 1983, the second version came out more than ten years later in the mid 1990s, and the third version - which continues to be sold today...
