What's Most Important To You: Filtration, Airflow, or Ergonomics?

The Results So Far I wish we had a survey function on this website as it would make questions like this much easier...Some of the answers were difficult to interpret. Filtration = 1/22 = 4.5% Airflow = 11/22 = 50% Ergonomics = 4/22 = 18.2% Refused to answer/Multiple answers/Disliked the...

    Riccar 8955

Post The Serial Number Sticker and let's see if we can decode the manufacturer's date. I nabbed an 8850 last year and have had quite the blast using it. Bill

    Handle Weight Tests

Randy, Yes, the non-tech drive Kirbys can be difficult to push. Actually when I want a workout, I use my Heritage II Legend and when I want to be completely wiped out, I use my Rainbow D4C SE PE. Bill

    Vacuums destroying carpets?

Charles, The looser tufts probably do about 90% as well as the tighter tufts, but they rip out almost no carpet fibers. So, I'd have to say that there is only a small difference in cleanliness with the stiffer brush roll. Most people wouldn't notice at all. The 152502 is most definitely quieter...

    Handle Weight Tests

Updated Handle Weight Tests Adding 9 more machines. Notice that the Dysons are the heaviest just to hold up, not including pushing forward and backward. The Kirbys have the lightest handle to hold due to the spring loaded tension. Enjoy! Bill

    Vacuums destroying carpets?

Destroy is a Realtive Term, Meaning over what time period? Yes, I have done Kirby tests (and some of this holds true for other brands as well) and here's what I've actually found (seen with my own eyes). Using Kirby brush roll 152505 (oblique tight tufts) on medium pile carpet, about 20% of...

Great Job on The Resto! The airflow on the Sentria II/Avalir is absolutely insane! Bill

EU energy saver vs high power vacuum performance

Mike, Did you notice that the lesser 650 Watt Philips is actually TWICE as efficient as the 2200 Watt model? Here's some efficiency numbers as measured via the hose end. Listed from WORST to BEST. Hose CFM Comparisons Philips Performer Pro 2200 Watts 108 CFM => 20.4 Watts per CFM Dyson DC65...

    Rainbow E2 2-Speed Measurements

Reply to Post #18 Andrew, Are you sure you understand the differences between CFM, airflow and suction? Your post seems to get them mixed up. EXAMPLE #1: "CFM Really Doesn't Mean Much" RESPONSE: You do know that CFM is airflow, correct? Suction equates to water lift. EXAMPLE #2: "A good...

Here's What The GM8901 Digital Anemometer Looks Like When powering up. Many, many things to choose from! It can even read the temperature of the air simultaneously with the flow (in many different units). Bill

    Rainbow E2 2-Speed Measurements

Reply to Chris Post #10 It makes perfect sense that a 1993 Rainbow D4C SE with the older spider, older non-trigger hose, older motor, etc., would have 5 CFM less at the hose than the 1997 D4C SE PE. Slightly different parts and another 4 years of age takes it's toll. Also, don't discount...

    Rainbow E2 2-Speed Measurements

Mikko, Glad to see that my painstaking, scientific Baird meter tests are repeatedly confirmed as being highly accurate! But, just for the heck of it, here's the graph I generated (using the GM8901 digital anemometer) that translates Baird readings to actual CFM again. Bill

    Rainbow E2 2-Speed Measurements

Taking A Brief Look at CRI's Rating System, I Found This So based on the photo, CRI lumps vacuums into three very unequal categories for soil removal and only two very broad categories for dust removal. For soil removal, they have these percentages: Bronze = 40%-49% Silver = 50%-54% Gold = 55%...

    Rainbow E2 2-Speed Measurements

Correction on my D4C SE PE's Airflow it's 65 from the hose end, not 60. The 60 is from an older D4C SE. So for the newer E2 2-Speed, that's an improvement of: 74" - 60" = 14" (23%) better at the base and 77 CFM - 66 CFM = 11 CFM (17%) better at the hose end. Mark, I personally would expect...

    Rainbow E2 2-Speed Measurements

In searching around YouTube, I came across two videos that appear to depict an airflow and water lift measurement for the E2 2-Speed machines. These seem to be accurate and show the machine achieving: 77 CFM at the hose end (not the nozzle end) and 74" water lift at the canister base (not the...

Miele C3 Airflow Losses: Some Meausred & Some Estimated

And Now For The Conclusion (Text Limiting Is A Bummer) Percent lost from empty to full (75% Kirby) HEPA bag: Electrolux (Body) = 14.7%, Electrolux (Hose) = 7.1% Tempo (Body) = 13.2%, Tempo (Hose) = 14.2% Heritage II (Body) > 12.4%, Heritage II (Hose) = 0% <- Yes, I know that’s weird but...

    Dyson DC65 Airflow Losses

Mike, I was referring to when the DC65 was new a few years ago. And with tax, many people paid closer to $700. Who would want to buy a superseded Dyson DC65 now that the "Ball 2" technology is available? Bill

Miele C3 Airflow Losses: Some Meausred & Some Estimated

Physics Says, HEPA material is HEPA material and it will lose airflow as it fills. BUT, as I have performed bag airflow loss tests, you don't lose that much. Think 15-20 CFM for a typical HEPA cloth bag. Bill

    Dyson DC65 Airflow Losses

Even Though Dysons Are Wildly Popular In The U.S. I just have a difficult time spending $600 for 52 CFM at the nozzle. I can spend $70 and have 80 CFM at the nozzle by purchasing a Hoover Tempo Widepath bagged machine. Or, if I demand a bag less machine, I can spend $70 (on sale) for a Hoover...
