I use vintage anchor hocking Fire king slag glass made in the good old USA. This stuff is indestructible.

I bought a classic for my mom , she kept overheating the Diamond Jubilee , she loves it . It's light and powerful and cleans super well. She has 2 cats and a Rottweiler.its the 90 year anniversary black one.

Now as for the muffled sound my guess is the fan stages and motor need to be cleaned out and bearing replaced. That's a little more in depth but their are instructions for that on here. Under Super J motor , I think.
