    New Big-Box Vacuums?

bagintheback Wow, I had no idea that Ryobi makes stick vacs now! It seems that just about every competitor is imitating the stick form factor made famous by Dyson (motor and bin in hand, long wand, powerhead at the bottom). I was also completely unaware of the Bissell-Rug Doctor acquisition. I...

    Most unpleasant-sounding vacuum ever?

kirbyman65 AW.org is shorthand for automaticwasher.org. It is the sister site to Vacuumland, where people discuss washing machines, dryers and dishwashers. You can get to AW via a link on the home page. I'm also a member on there.

    Most unpleasant-sounding vacuum ever?

I've seen a thread in the archives about what members' quietest and loudest vacuums are. But I was inspired by a post over on AW.org to make this thread. I wasn't sure which forum to put this in, so I picked Contemporary. What is the one vacuum cleaner that irritates you the most in terms of...

    New Big-Box Vacuums?

Are there any new vacuum brands out there that are being sold at big-box stores? Because the top brands that I see on online stores (including, but not limited to Target, Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon) are Shark, Bissell, Eureka, Dyson, Hoover, Dirt Devil and Kenmore. These vacuums are generally...

    Rare Shark Vacuums?

This is an oddball Shark released a Rotator Powered Lift-Away canister vacuum in late 2014. It is bagless, and how is the "Lift-Away" feature utilized? The main suction motor piece lifts away from the wheels. This design choice always struck me as odd. It appears that this machine didn't sell...

    What Happened To FantomTechGuy

huskyvacs Yes, I am one of those individuals who greatly understands the appeal of Fantom vacuums. My parents had a 10 amp Fantom Fury (likely purchased through the infomercial) when I was a kid, so I grew up with it in an apartment. Watching my mom vacuum with that Fury, I admired the design...

What vacuum cleaners do you think will be forgotten in the future?

I, too, used to own the Oreck edition of this ONEPWR cordless vacuum; I got it for Christmas of 2020. The outer bag had a dark blue rim. I will admit, it cleaned very well, but the battery life wasn't the best. The vacuum would often die during the end of my cleaning job upstairs. And it didn't...

    Forgotten Bissell Products

A forgotten rarity... The Bissell CatchAll, dating from the early 2000s. It was billed as "the bare floor cleaner that vacuums and dusts your floors in one easy step." The CatchAll is essentially just a dry floor mop combined with a vacuum for picking up large crumbs. According to the manual...

    Forgotten Hoover Products

Hoover SteamVac Jr. Now THIS is a forgotten machine. The SteamVac Jr., dating from the late 90s-early 2000s, is a portable deep cleaner along the lines of the Bissell Little Green. The only videos I've been able to find of it were some commercials, along with an unboxing video (the user found...

    Are "lift-off" vacuums overrated?

Well! Looks like I was proven wrong about lift-off vacuums. I considered them "overrated" due to my own experiences, but I'm glad to see that others are fond of the design. My mom owns a Shark Navigator Lift-Away with Zero-M, and I like to use the Lift-Away feature to tackle cobwebs in her...

    Are "lift-off" vacuums overrated?

This is another in-depth topic that I've been meaning to post about for a long time now. I'm referring to upright vacuums that have a "lift-off" or "lift-away" design. This feature was pioneered by Bissell, and later arguably popularized by Shark. The basic idea sounds neat on paper, seeing as...

What is the “What Were They Thinking?!” Product of the vacuum world?

PowerstarEnergy Thanks for noticing! When I saw that you posted my photo of the QuickSteamer, I had to clarify that it was my mom who owned that machine at her apartment. Just a couple months after the machine died, I plugged in the QuickSteamer and tried running it one last time; the motor ran...

What is the “What Were They Thinking?!” Product of the vacuum world?

Powerstarenergy That is indeed the infamous QuickSteamer Plus that my mom received from a coworker of hers. And yes, it does have a direct air design. When I disassembled the machine, I was shocked to see an impeller mounted close to the suction opening. When dirty solution is picked up, it...

What is the “What Were They Thinking?!” Product of the vacuum world?

There is only one I could think of... The Hoover SteamVac Agility. A carpet cleaner that claimed to make deep cleaning as easy as vacuuming, its fatal flaw lied in the internal recovery hose. It was WAY too short and could not stand up to repeated raising and lowering of the handle during...

What if bagless dust cups were made of glass instead of plastic?

panasonicvac I do agree with the points you've made, since I'm also a huge fan of bagless vacuums. Seeing the dirt that I've picked up gives me a sense of satisfaction and confidence, knowing that my vacuum is doing its job. On the other hand, if I were using a bagged vacuum, I would not be as...

What if bagless dust cups were made of glass instead of plastic?

Alright Thanks for all the replies on this hypothetical scenario. I agree, glass would indeed make a vacuum much heavier and therefore harder to maneuver. As for cloudiness and wear, I have a set of glass mixing bowls which have seen their fair share of use over the years (scratch marks from...

What if bagless dust cups were made of glass instead of plastic?

I decided to make this thread to ask a pretty interesting hypothetical question that had been floating around in my head for a long time now: What if on bagless vacuum cleaners, the clear dust bin was made using glass *instead of* plastic? I was inspired to ask this after seeing how most...

    Picking out a vac!

I remember... Right at the end of 2007 (four days after Christmas), I went with my dad to Target to pick out a new vacuum to replace our well-worn Bissell CleanView. We came home with a Dyson DC07 Animal, which was the oldest Dyson model still on sale at the time. And the rest is history.

    Tennant T7 AMR

My high school had one of these machines a decade ago; the custodians used it in the large "commons" space to scrub the floor after all 3 lunch periods were over. Sadly, I never got to use this myself, but I always found it fascinating to watch whenever I was walking to and from classes.

    Vacuums at my Goodwill

What a flashback... I'm not sure why someone decided to revive this old thread of mine, but those vacuums are indeed long gone, and I stopped volunteering at this Goodwill after 7 months. That October, when an opening popped up, I hurriedly applied for it. They reviewed my qualifications, but...
