    Thrift store find

Great score on the Royal!! I found one at Goodwill exactly like it about 3 years ago. I gave it a good resto. Love that blue color, my ladyfriend's favorite. Vacsofprosper - I miss Grace Bridge. They did not have a lot of household stuff but I did get some cool things there like vintage...

    New trash find

Good find! I had scored an original series shop vac 5 gallon unit from the trash 2 months ago, same place I got the 3B Kitchenaid mixer. It had the box and all attachments. They sucked up drywall dust once then chucked it. I spent about 10 minutes washing it up and it is near new. I needed...

    Reconditioned Kirby?

Another example I did have a guy that gave me $160 for a Heritage (no attachments)that I custom restored for him back in 2020. I had about $60 in it, vac + parts. So roughly figure $100 in resto labor from a hobbyist.

    Reconditioned Kirby?

A real life example... I have a complete G6 2000 special edition set with all the attachments and rug renovator. I bought it all from a thrift store, restored the machine after a complete teardown, polished metal, and washed all attachments. Inlcludes video and original boxes. I have 100...

    Reviving Dustbuster Talk

Any of the NiCD batteries in these things are easy and cheap to replace with basic mechanical, electrical, and soldering skills. Replacing with NiMH cells is a big improvement to eliminate the 'memory effect' that NiCDs have. The original charger will still work fine. There used to be a few...

    Your thoughts

Hmm, toy trash trucks.. Have a picture of them to share? I see the kids versions often at thrift stores in all configurations. But those First gear models are quite impressive. Not toys, either - detailed replicas instead. I could see collecting those spiral out of control quickly! I...

I have about 10 barricade lights, some in all conditions. There are rechargeable 6V lantern batteries that could be used in them also. I have some set up in the garage on regulated DC power supplies. I turn those on along with some real LED traffic lights and ped crossing signs. Makes for nice...

    Your thoughts

This is a cool thread. opelgtkarl - love that uranium glass!! Is it actually radioactive like the radium used in old clock dials? Where do you get this stuff? I would sure like to get some. I am way into glow in the dark stuff - always was. My mom trashed my old hot wheels long ago - still mad...

    Your thoughts

So what is with the horse heads? Mascots maybe? I never heard of or seen these before, nor heard of collections of them. I find them very attractive, as I love colored glass (another thing I collect)...

What if bagless dust cups were made of glass instead of plastic?

Weight, extra cost, fragile nature, and liability risk would make glass prohibitive for MFRs. Like kirby519 said - just use a bagged machine, change the bag when needed and be done. Little mess, no fuss. One bag can go a long way (at least in a Kirby).

    Your thoughts

Yes, yes, and yes! Too many things to mention, but what they all have in common is they are vintage. I am into vintage (pre-90s) audio equipment, appliances, home decor, cars, furniture, etc. My ladyfriend is into vintage clothing (80s-90's). I sometimes refer my house the 'klutter kingdom'. I...

    Kirby split second vac WANTED!

Thanks all for the info. I never really paid much attention to these little guys. Les, I already knew the car models were not much use. That was the reason I never used mine, lol... I already had a B&D car vac that I used and hated. It worked but I hated the cord and plug. I would get...

    Kirby split second vac WANTED!

I have a never-used black 12V car version that I got for allowing an in home demo of a Sentria (?) in 1993 or 1994. Is this the same as the ones given away with the HII? Is there a 120V model also?

Regarding the two current levels of some kirby vacs

Yes, there are two switches, one for hose (high speed) and the other for carpet (low speed). There is also one last switch at the emtor, to prevent operation without an exhaust attachment. All of the above is contained in the power switch module. It is even designed to not turn power back on...

Regarding the two current levels of some kirby vacs

Like he said, only the maximum has to be labeled per UL requirements. Kirby had just added more info than required on some models. The GEN series have more powerful motors, which is why they are 7A. Many other items will show similar ratings. I have a vintage heater that shows both power...

    Hose end ID please

Thanks Jimmy. This makes sense as 2-3 years ago I did scavenge a mid-80s Rainbow of the same color from this same area, possibly same house. I will see if I have the contact info of the person who came and got the vac to see if they want the hose. If not I will cannibalize it. Thanks again!

    Hose end ID please

I found this hose on the curb and it looks like the raw hose would fit some Kirby ends I have. I need a utility hose so this would work good. I plan to cut off the existing ends and toss them. Does anyone knows what this goes with? The word by the latch says 'PRESS'. Plain plastic, not...

    looking for a kirby D.S. 80

Hope you found your D80. If you get the one from Les, it will be a good running machine. I have one now residing in the kitchen awaiting a resto. Anything put on CL for 'free' will be like a chicken thrown into a pool of piranhas. The vac could easily been picked up by a scrapper or a...

The Vac shop clean out begins

Thanks for the update Jimmy (wow I am late to respond!) As mentioned, no rush. Glad you are finding some stuff though. Completeness of the list and clearing out your stash are the important things. Great news on the G5 hose - hope you have some other nice G5 stuff I need.

Working Kirby Classic III - as-is, or I can rebuild for you

IF anyone here is interested in this set (esp a local enthusiast), please make me a offer (dont care how much now). My email is in my profile. Really need to move it out before spring as it is in the garage in the way. Les, yes it is in great running shape and is easily restorable. I just...
