    Tandem Vacuums. Ever tried it?

@ Charles... Have you ever noticed that the Model L with a metal bag chamber makes more of an audible "whine" than the Model L with the plastic chamber? I've noticed that my blue Model L with plastic chamber is a bit quieter than my tan L with the metal chamber. I also noticed my grandma's...

Todays Picture of the day. Sunday

The Lovely Model E (and its Automatic Counterpart) When my parents first were married, in 1973, my dad's father bought my parents a $50 rebuilt Model E (not the automatic one) as a wedding gift. I remember that vacuum distinctly, with its chrome halo around the blower end for cord storage and...

    Time for Service?

Good News! Curiosity got the best of me, and I took my Model L apart myself to inspect the motor (to see if I could discern what was wrong). Come to find out, the only problem I could see was that the motor's commutator was caked with dirt. Upon cleaning it, then checking the motor brushes...

    Time for Service?

Thanks... Thanks guys for your input...I am going to bring my L into the vac shop this week to get it checked out. Hopefully it will be a simple brush replacement that will do the trick. =) Brian

    I will ask YET AGAIN...

Mike... The motor in one of my Electroluxes has been doing a funny thing lately, and rather than chance it and make it worse, I'm going to have it checked out. A simple problem left ignored can turn into a major problem (meaning more $$$ to fix). I like to err on the side of being cautious...

    Time for Service?

Hi All, Today I was using one of my Model Ls (the blue one). All of a sudden, I noticed that the motor began running more slowly and the suction decreased. At first, I thought perhaps an appliance somewhere in the house had kicked in and was drawing power away from the circuit upon which I...

    How Does a Rexair Work?

Thanks Everybody Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. I was very curious about the Rainbow machines and how they worked, and how well they worked. I've often wondered myself how much less dust I would have in my apartment if I used a vacuum with better filtration. Of...

    How Does a Rexair Work?

Whoa! The only thing I've seen that's worse than that is the inside of a shop vac! It looks like that lady doesn't use that machine properly at all. I guess the water filtration was the precursor to the modern-day HEPA filtration system? Thanks for posting pics!

Geographic Distribution (USA) of vacuum makes/models

Here on Long Island: Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, most everyone I knew used Electroluxes--from the Model E through the Diamond Jubilee. The most popular vacuums I noticed were the 1205 and the Golden J/Super J. A few people had Kenmores, and some had Hoover Convertibles. I never once saw...

    How Does a Rexair Work?

Hey Chris... Thanks for the info. I guess I'd like to see what the motor and the water tank looks like. The Rainbow always has been a curiosity to me. I can imagine it would be sort of inconvenient to have to dump the machine out when finished cleaning, but I have always wondered if the...

    How Does a Rexair Work?

Hi people, I'm very curious as to how the Rexair Rainbow works. I know it involves water, but I'm just curious as to what the innards of the machine look like and how it manages to filter the air through the water. Can anyone take pics (if you have one of these machines)? Thanks =) Brian

My Electrolux PN Collection To Date

The PN-6A The PN-6A has a very, VERY stiff brushroll inside, which "propels" the unit forward when vacuuming. I actually do prefer the PN-1 or PN-2. Charlie, I did notice that your mother uses a plastic-housed PN (PN-5, perhaps?) when you posted pics of her with her repaired vacuum right...

My Electrolux PN Collection To Date

And... Here's a pic of the Diamond Jubilee, which I don't think I have shown before, either. The twins are in the pic as well. I couldn't leave them out!

My Electrolux PN Collection To Date

I acquired a new PN-6A this week, for use with my Diamond Jubilee. I also never did post a picture of my PN-2 after I polished it up. Here is a pic! Note: I added the cute little lightning bolts to the pic, because they remind me of the lightning bolts that used to appear on the old school...

    Electrolux Model 1205

Here's a Link: Hi Clayton, I happened upon this site (called "VacuumMan.com") awhile ago, and I know this guy restores vintage Electroluxes. Perhaps you could give him a buzz, and ask him what the paint specs are for the 1205? http://www.vacuumman.com/contact.html Hope this helps! Brian...

    A Perfect Example

True... But if you're going to try to sell a vacuum for $275...don't you think you should address those issues before selling it? Vacuum shops sell refurbished models of that vintage for far less money, and offer a guarantee to boot!

    A Perfect Example

Yes, and... Might I also add that this was part of the description: "The motor is a little noisy but doesn't interfere with the suction." I thought the Model G was very quiet? Hmm...could the bearings in that vacuum be shot? For someone who claims to have worked on Electroluxes for 50...

    A Perfect Example

To Get Nit-Picky The tan Model G that sold for $313.00 wasn't all original either. It didn't come with an original hose (rather, a vinyl replacement), and it was being sold with a newer PN-2 with beige telescoping sheath. However, cosmetically, both vacuum and PN appeared to be in terrific...

Tan Model G sales receipt - something interesting

Now that I Think of It I don't think the Model 1205 ever had a pigtail cord that wrapped around the hose. I think the earliest 1205 had an electric pigtail hose. In that respect, as the date on your receipt is from '67, perhaps the latest Model G was offered with an electric pigtail hose...
