    Working on vacuum motors?

Sintered.... is a term for a bronze bushing(and actually other bronze devices) that is porous. In this instance it refers to motor bushings designed to cup a steel shaft end with lubricant. It's difficult sometimes to tell a impregnated wet bushing from a dry bushing if they are both old in...

Electrolux Diamond Jubilee needs new brushes

Good.... question. The ones I pictured above are about 1.25" in length. I don't remember length requirements because I bought brushes specific for Diamond J and never gave it a second thought. The motor in the Diamond J was a break from the traditional Elux motors, so you can't really compare...

    Working on vacuum motors?

There are.... two types of sintered bronze bushings;dry lubricated and wet lubricated. One is impregnated with oil and the other is impregnated with dry lubricant like graphite. The dry lube bearings can't be just converted to run wet with oil simply by adding oil to them. You have to chem...

    Hose Woes

I agree..... you can find the teal hose and keep it for show. But if you want to get serious about using your machine, get the OEM vinyl. A number of yrs ago here a member posted some pics of his Elux hose connection......it was amazing and huge! The colors, the patterns over the yrs.....very...

    wooooooah

Oh..... they'll probably get it. I see this across many hobbies;ultra insane prices for complete sets of things in uber shape. There seems no bottom to the pockets of some collectors. Normally I don't care, but prices paid like that move everything else up the scale a bit at least. Kevin

    Working on vacuum motors?

What you really...... need is an Elmer(mentor), the first few time you rebuild a motor. And hopefully, you'll find someone that does it correctly and efficiently. There are a lot of vids on YouTube for rebuilding small electric motors that apply. Trouble is many of them are trash. And once...

    Hose Woes

You can.... try an Aerus dealer with varying results depending on where you live. Otherwise eBay. You can ask the seller directly if the hose leaks and how you would want them to test it. If they refuse, you don't buy. If they supposedly test it and you find it's really a leaker, you have...

Electrolux Diamond Jubilee needs new brushes

The brushes..... I pictured on the left, up above, are very close to those measurements. So I'm guessing they are probably for a G. But it's the same design and were available as little as five yrs ago. Thanks for posting the brush specs for Diamond J. Now, if we can find a source, we can put...

    Thrift store find

Some.... will wax poetic about aftermarket hoses. And they were fine going into the early 2000's....I bought a bunch of them. Since then they have all become Chinesium junk. The chroming flakes off, they don't fit Sidekicks properly, the end fittings get loose from use etc., etc. YMMV. Aerus...

    Thrift store find

"The sheet metal on those machines is fairly thin and flexible. While hammering the dents out with a ball peen hammer and a block of wood might work ok, you could also try massaging them out with paintless dent removal tools. Then again, you could just leave them in place as well-earned 'battle...

    My vacuum cleaner collection

It gets..... kind of complicated of all the various ways you can make money on YouTube. Yrs ago if you had a million viewers, you were guaranteed some income. I know a musician who has a channel and he makes his money buy selling intellectual property that he's created. He's one those guys...

    My vacuum cleaner collection

It is a source..... of income to many. But like the Wild West was, it's awash with idiots, dolts and trolls. There is however much value/collective wisdom because if you go there looking for how to fix something or take it apart, you can usually find it.....especially electronic gadgets. Even...

    Thrift store find

Great...... find! After the Diamond J I'm not familiar with the motors;where they were made or anything else about them. If you have patience, dimples in metal body Elux's are pretty easy to take out. You can get a cheap set of auto body tools @Harbor Freight, tape the metal surfaces of the...

Lux 1205 used to clean pipe organ

"I thought the Kirbys and Electroluxes in churches were donated by church members that bought new vacuums." I'm sure that was true too. Would just depend on the policy of the pastor/preacher/priest/deacons etc. I've seen people donate hopelessly useless junk to churches. I guess it made them...

Electrolux 1205 Will Not Turn On

The Silverado... has the Super J motor design. The 1205 has the last motor they used in the G....the one that is the most powerful. The 1205 should pull about the same as the last G's and the Golden Anniversary model. The Super J motors will pull more(if they are in good shape). Kevin

Lux 1205 used to clean pipe organ

I would imagine..... that an Electrolux salesman was not above going to a church for sales. Some churches would be long time customers.....makes business sense to me;large spaces, need a good quality vac. We hear about Hoover, Krby and Royal being used in churches. Kevin

Electrolux Diamond Jubilee needs new brushes

Thanks..... MM, but I just don't remember on the Diamond J....if the brushes are integral with the holders as a unit. Been some yrs since I was in one, but I don't remember this as an issue. If they were unobtainium or a real hassle to get, seems like I would remember it. Kevin

Electrolux Diamond Jubilee needs new brushes

I don't.... know why this as gone this far....talking about replacing brush holders. You clean the holders and put new brushes in and dress the commutator with a stone.....unless a a holder is damaged somehow. I've never had to replace the holders along with the brushes just because. No...

Electrolux Diamond Jubilee needs new brushes

You..... can't solder the braided wire onto/into brush carbon, of course. Looks like they drill a hole and shove the wire into it somehow....never seen the process done. Kevin
