    Hoover Turbomaster U5094 Total System

Yes, it looks great Alex. The fact that the Hoover Turbomaster was such a popular cleaner in the UK despite the rather poor suction on the tools and the inconvenience of same makes me wonder why the likes of Panasonic and of course Electrolux did not make anything of the fact they had "clean...

    Vacuum of the day---Hoover

By today's standards and indeed for the best part of the last 30 years or more, it is not the "done" thing to buy appliances for a woman, however, as has been said already, at the time it was most welcome. Immediately after the 2nd World War, in the UK married women were not supposed to go to...

    New copycat Dyson cordless

"Isn't it all a bit crazy? These names all broken up like this? And, they all wanted that red Hoover logo.. and some patents." Well I don't think so, no. It's like I have said many times, when a well-known brand goes bust there is often still a lot of "value" in just the name. In this instance...

    Hate? I meant "hat" sorry.

    Electrolux vacuum cleaner

Caligula I love your subtle irony. I take my hate off to you.

Sorry I should have said these were Dyson uprights.

    New copycat Dyson cordless

I happened to be in a Currys store about three years ago - I must have gone to buy something as I am not one to browse for the sake of. Anyway that said, I did take a look around the store seeing how I was there, and taking in all the new things for sale. As I was walking down the vacuum...

    New copycat Dyson cordless

Fact is, people who want the "look" but don't want to pay the price will go for one of these, as will potentially anyone who was disappointed with their Dyson hand-held. As Sebo fan suggests, the noise is a factor. Dyson never seem troubled about noise.

    New Vorwerk Kobold VK200

I am sure I have seen Vorwerk in Which? reports of old, but in recent times they have become very much focused on what the bulk of consumers are liable to buy, rather than any product for the category which they can get their hands on, as was the case it seemed for a long time.

    New Vorwerk Kobold VK200

I think the thing to remember with these ensembles is that it's not about what the cleaner can do which attracts the attention of those who buy it, it's about how many separate tools it has and the perception that buying this will render ones home "clean" just by owning such a machine. It's not...

    What is Crosley?

"More recently, Polaroid has suffered a similar fate." That name has shown up in the UK too on a range of cheap electronic goods in Asda (Walmart). However, there is a story to the demise of Polaroid, at least in the UK, as they failed to keep abreast of market changes and their product became...

    Regina Housekeeper 2500

We had the Regina Housekeeper Plus in the UK for a short while during the middle 1980's. They were the competition for the Electrolux 610 and 612. However, despite being a lot cheaper in price, they were never that popular. Here is a photograph of said cleaners, courtesy of Turbo500.

    Odd Edward

Turbo heads This turbo head here is identical to the one which Numatic supplied for their cleaners for many years from the mid 1980's up until I don't know when. It's a Wessel Werk tool and did have some printing on one corner at one time, whether just for Numatic or for all, I am not sure...

    Odd Edward

Coloured Wands Over the years Numatic have trialled many variations on their cleaners. The coloured wands are aluminium and are painted - usually in grey paint as standard, but sometimes black too. For a short while in the mid to late 1990's they chose to paint them the same colours as the...

    PYE BV19

Ah! We had that as the Mcdonald Electric. But I am sensing the Scottish theme to the name Douglas / Mcdonald.

    PYE BV19

"mid 70's an upright machine that I can only track down to be identical to the UK Douglas branded vac." I've never heard of a Douglas before - do you have a picture?

    New Henry's - Original, Compact & Professional

The Numatic Henry encapsulates what a vacuum is going to be like in order to perform well, last well, and act as well as can be expected from that type of appliance. No matter what anyone does to a vacuum cleaner, there are always going to be aspects of it which annoy one person, excite another...

    New Henry's - Original, Compact & Professional

"Still, Henry needs to be reshaped so he doesn't take up so much room in Brits limited closet space. Also, Brits have more stairs in their homes, and a vacuum that can't be set on stair steps seems awkward." Thank you for this. There is nothing I like more than being told about what I have and...

    New Henry's - Original, Compact & Professional

Alex I stand corrected as I had no idea at all Numatic were now using a different base on James. I can even see the difference in the photos. I wonder why this is? The bag capacity will be the same so you’d think the Henry tub would be made the same way.

    New Henry's - Original, Compact & Professional

As above, very well said Sebofan. Clearly one "issue" Numatic have to address is that when using a Henry or whatever cleaner of theirs you own, in a domestic setting, the chances of it ever wearing out are none existent. Thus they have to constantly find ways of keeping the same product more up...
