    Hoover Dail A Matic Day

Is it possible to MacGyver a newer type of bag in there? I can't recall what the fill tube on a DAM looks like, but would a Riccar bag fit?

    The new Aerus

Hmm, they still have the flip-over tool. I thought that was long gone; good to see it isn't! I like the new color scheme, too. Might well have to look into getting one of these some day...

6000 sq ft home and the need for clean

I'd say when in doubt, go with the canister, just because they're more versatile, and because you have a lot of bare floors. The Sebo D4 is a great choice, as would be the Riccar Immaculate or Simplicity Gusto or Moxie. I personally like the Tacony vacs a bit better, because their power nozzles...

    My Extensive Collection Part 3

I don't think the G-series is terrible either, but the Legend series is, in my opinion, anyway, easier to maneuver. (Decent versus better, not good versus bad) As for loud, I think my point of comparison is more modern Royal than Kirby. I don't consider any of the Kirbys very loud.

    My Extensive Collection Part 3

Very nice Legend II; I'd love to find one like it. I really think the Legend series were probably the best Kirbys ever made - lighter and less cumbersome than the G-series, plenty of power but not too loud, and can use the modern HEPA bags.

Forgot to mention - for a direct-air motor, 6A is actually very powerful. The top-end Sanitaires have a 7A motor, Kirby is in the same range or a bit less. The remaining dirty-fan Eurekas have a 5A motor. Royals have a stonking huge 10A beast of a motor, but they're mostly just louder than the...

I'd guess they're both 6A motors - you generally can't draw much more than 12A on a single 120V/15A circuit. Subjectively, the hose airflow on a Simplicity Synchrony (which is about the same thing as the Maytag) feels like what I'd get from the attachment hose on a 6A Royal (so pretty strong...

Miele launch the 700W S8 Silence Plus Ecoline in the UK

I think folks might be shocked by how well a low-wattage canister can perform. I have a Filter Queen 95x, and that draws (according to my Kill-A-Watt meter) 865W at the wall with the power nozzle running. (That was with a month-old filter and a tank full of dust, BTW) It's rated as having a 900W...

    Tacony Experts

In my opinion and experience - I haven't tested this rigorously, note - the Simplicity/Riccar TOL power nozzle is probably the most effective one available. Its only real competition is probably the Wessel Werk EBK360 and the Lindhaus Stealth. I think it can equal or exceed pretty much any...

Miele launch the 700W S8 Silence Plus Ecoline in the UK

Was just thinking - that 200W is plenty for a PN motor, and I wouldn't be surprised if they switch from turbo nozzles to power nozzles. Miele mostly sells their vacuums with electric PNs in the states (a turbo is available if you really want it, though), so the design work is already mostly done.

dyson dc65 Cleans better across carpets and hard floors

I'll give you this - it's almost certainly the best *bagless* vacuum you can get in the USA unless you count such things as Filter Queen. But yeah, for bagged, you can get Sanitaire, Riccar/Simplicity/Maytag and Royal, which I'd choose over the DC65, especially for the price. I'll grant that...

    Old "Stink Bombs"

Out of idle curiosity, what was the last Kirby to be sold with a de-mothing tool? I don't remember hearing it mentioned when a Kirby salesman was trying to convince my dad to buy a Heritage II (IIRC) in 1987, and my Heritage II Legend (which has "all the tools", though really only the major...

    Vacuums that make you satisfied

I keep hoping I'll luck upon a good deal on a Sebo K3 with an electric PN. I really rather like them. The price is a little steep (in the US, anyway. Even accounting for the rather strong Euro and Pound, high-quality vacuums seem to be cheaper in the EU and UK), but not bad at all for what you get.

    Riccar 8850 Find!

Can't argue with that! Durable, well-performing, and quite maintainable. They may be often imitated, but the Riccar clean-air uprights are still some of the best in their class.

Royal 2025 brush stops on carpet

Sounds like a spindle shaft issue to me too. I'd expect some issues with the fan in that case though.

    New Vac: Canister or Upright

The Sebo D4 would be a good call - my only reservation is the lack of a light on the PN, which the Simplicity/Riccar PNs do have. That said, the Sebo has a bigger bag than the Riccars, and it's quieter.

    Vacuums that make you satisfied

For me, the most satisfying one-pass performance comes from either my Filter Queen with upgraded (EBK360) power nozzle, or from my franken-Royal (880 with a 671 motor). Before the Royal wound up frankensteined, though, I think my Kirby Heritage II Legend did a better job.

    New Vac: Canister or Upright

The MC-CG973 is very much like the Kenmore, though usually the Panasonic-branded models are built a little better. They're pretty solid, and the filtration is decent (not amazing, but not bad either). My problem with them is that the power nozzle is rather lackluster. It's not bad, but you can...

Bought a 'new' to me Royal upright vacuum cleaner.

That's an excellent vacuum; it's hard to go wrong with any of the Royals. If you want another one, I might look at the 996 - It has a headlight, plus a 7A motor. The newer models with a more powerful motor are only a little bit stronger but a lot louder.

    Sanitaire Commercial Upright Questions

They *are* pretty close to the old Eurekas (and to the new-production, classic-styled Eurekas). They use the same bags (except ST), brush rolls, belts and even motors, I think. The only real difference is a better build quality on the Sanitaires, and a more powerful default motor (7A, versus 5A...
