    Favorite Color On A Vacuum

Blue, definitely I also like the tan 'lux model Gs, but for me, the teal 1205 and L are at the top. That color reminds me of a tiny lead pleisiosaur I had at about age 7. Lately I've grown very partial to the hammertone blue used on the Es and AEs. Waxed to a high shine, it's mighty pretty. I'd...

    1969 Electrolux 1205 motor question

I believe the bearing you need is available on eBay Gvox, the front (fan-end) bearing is a ball bearing.  Not long ago I replaced the one in my model G, and it was an industry-standard no. 608, so your 1205's front bearing also should be a 608.  The number is stamped on the edge of the outer...

Need fans and fan housings for early 'lux Silverado motor

Thanks and never mind, I'll use my AE motor's parts Unfortunately, I just ruined the armature of the AE motor.  Instead of the usual aluminum sleeve behind the rear fan, there is a washer that should've just slid off of the shaft, but wouldn't.  I bent the shaft trying to remove it so I could...

    Lux Crevice Tools

My parents had a black one Would it have come with their prewar XXX?  I don't recall ever seeing a colored crevice tool in their house, and they also had a late model E that they bought in mid-1956.

The Design and Creation of the GE Roll-Easy Vacuum!

Does anyone have an image of the motor? I'd like to see the motor that was used in these.  I gather it was a two-stage, double-ball-bearing unit which was typical for the day, but having worked only with Lamb/Ametek, Hoover, and 'lux motors, I can't visualize what the GE motor looks like.  ...

    Steamliner???

Sci-fi, definitely I'm visualizing aliens hooking it up to an earthling's head to extract whatever it is that aliens extract!

    The Electrolux Model G!

I had to replace my turquoise G's switch Someone had dropped something heavy on it, which cracked the switch paddle and threw something out of alignment inside.  It turned on fine but I really had to hit the paddle hard to get it to turn off.  I tried cleaning the contacts and lubricating the...

    Lux Crevice Tools

Not impossible to find I was able to pick one up from eBay sometime in the last few months.  Mine has the Electrolux logo stamped into one side.  It appears to have been factory painted in a semi-gloss (not hammertone) blue that matches the shade of blue on my E and AE.  I didn't know any of...

Need fans and fan housings for early 'lux Silverado motor

Hello, I recently acquired a spare motor for my Silverado.  It was sold as operable, but it arrived with the outer fan housing dented to where it slightly rubs on the fan.  Ordinarily I'd just disassemble, remove the dent, and reassemble, but the auction images didn't show that the fan housings...

Ain't no drag...Eureka's got a brand new bag!

I love the cat photobomb As staff to four cats, we see a lot of that, especially when my wife takes pictures of her knitting and weaving projects.

    The Electrolux Model G!

Jon, I don't know if this means anything . . . . . . but I have both a complete AE and parts from another one, and the bodies of both switches are clear.  These switches are so rugged and long-lasting that I question whether both are replacements.  Just my thoughts.   Joel

Thanks for the video! I was wondering what these sound like.

Free Air-Way 80th Anniversary Edition Vacuum

I hear you, and I know what I have, because I bought one of these new from Tom when they first came out.  I sold it when we moved to a house with mostly hardwood floors (shock, horror!)   I have a taker and I am shipping it today, so this is a done deal.  It's better in the hands of someone...

    Peculiar Arco wand central vacuum

So with a Roots blower arrangement, it is a "positive displacement" air pump that will produce ferocious suction but perhaps not much airflow.  It would not deliver the hose-end performance we're used to today.  Fascinating though; I'd love to hear it run with its repulsion/induction motor. ...

    Electrolux PN-4... HELP!!

Not sure what you mean . . . . . . by "the armature windings look crispy."  Unless that black area is a burnt spot, I don't see "crispy."  Armature windings are often a different shade of color than the field windings.  Given your description, the problem sounds to me to be mechanical, not...

Free Air-Way 80th Anniversary Edition Vacuum

Greetings, I bought this at an antiques mall last fall.  It's in perfect working order but I don't use it.  Had I known at the time that Air-Way was out of business, I would've let it sit.  Normally I would donate a vac like this, but with few repair parts available and decent bags...

    Anyone up for housecleaning?

In line, waiting to go back into the train room My wife returns tomorrow, so time to put 'em away.  I kept the Silverado out because I'll clean again today.

    Vacuum Cleaner Diversity

I use my Miele Callisto most often because it filters so well and is so, so quiet with its little SEB-217 power nozzle.  Its cleaning path is narrow, so I bought a SEB-228 but sold it after two uses because of the racket it made.  When I pull out vintage vacs, I most often use my '64 'Lux G and...

    'Lux E transitional motors?

Hello all, I have an early 'Lux E that doesn't sound like I remember my parents' E sounding.  My AE does sound like I remember.  Tig21er's post 284333 states that beginning with the E they switched to thin fans and a bronze rear bearing.  My parents' E had two ball bearings; I remember that...

    Anyone up for housecleaning?

Kirbyklekter, the G was my all-time favorite model for many years, but these days I really like the looks of the AE and the 1205.  I can't pick a favorite.  Without an integrated cordwinder, the AE looks more industrial to me, and the blue hammertone is handsome.  Lux's designers really cleaned...
