    Recommendations please?

I would have your friend look at the entry level Riccar Supralite, or, if she prefers pink, go for the Simplicity Freedom Pink Ribbon Girls edition. Have the dealer order a bottom plate from one of the higher end models that has the squeegee built in so she can do bare floors too. Add a nice...

What are your favourite defunct brands?

Lewyt They were a brand with some interesting ideas, ahead of their time. Most people that own canisters with a powerhead don't realize that Lewyt was responsible for bringing that to market. I also think the Big Wheel, with it's square body and large wheels, was revolutionary in how...

    Rebadges

Tacony Chris, you're right about Kristi Tacony Humes....yes she has done a good job of diversifying Tacony's portfolio and product offerings. So much so, she has run that company into the ground and made some DUMB decisions! Tacony, in my opinion, is a shadow of it's former self. And what used...

Third party hose replacenment for a Kirby 510

Sam, you do realize that Kirby actually sells a new universal hose for the older models right? It's a black vinyl hose. Why not just contact a Kirby distributor and order one of those?

    Electrolux Epic 6500 SR Motors

MIchael, Electrolux used their own motors right up till the end. It was in 2002, when Electrolux officially changed their name to Aerus, that they stopped using their own motors and sold the Electro Motor division in Piney Flats, Tennessee.

Must get rid of my collection

Edward, I am sorry to hear of your need to downsize your collection. I guess we are all going to be in your place at some point in our lives eh? It was very nice of you to offer your vacuums to collectors first, at least you know they will be taken care of. If it wasn't for the distance and...

    Eureka Victory Hepa Bags

Gabriel - Yes, believe it or not, Paper HEPA bags have existed in the past. Kirby and Royal both had Paper HEPA bags before they introduced Cloth HEPA bags for their uprights. Also, some brands' paper bags actually meet HEPA requirements but aren't referred to as HEPA bags. Case in point - Aerus...

    Eureka F & G Light Bulb

Rob I actually used to use 25 watt bulbs in my vacuums. Like you, I wasn't satisfied with the brightness of the 15 watt bulbs, especially in some vacuums & powerheads with designs that restrict the light coming out somewhat. The problem I had with them is that they barely lasted more than 2...

    Hoover Convertible HEPA Bags?

Michael, if your Convertible uses the Hoover Type A bag, TTI does make a Hoover Type A HEPA Cloth bag you can buy for it. They come in a 2 pack. There are also generic versions online. Or. if for some reason you can't find the Type A HEPA Cloth bag, the Hoover Type Y HEPA Cloth bag will fit &...

    1995 Singer Find

That Singer is NOT rare at all! Here in Ontario, Canada, that particular vacuum sold for $200 at Canadian Tire stores. They sold a ton of them - very common to see these come into repair shops on their last legs. The local vac shop owner used to say that these were really bad Hoover Elite...

    HEPA Bag Opinions, Please

I do use HEPA Cloth bags in my vacuums. But, on vacuums that have a sealed HEPA Filter on the exhaust, if there is a paper micro-filtration bag available, I will use that instead. Yes, they do keep the dust inside the bag & improve filtration, BUT on vacuums that already have a sealed HEPA...

    Electrolux ZB55 Hose

Dan, I know that Vacuum Specialists in Calgary, Alberta saves the plastic machine end from the electric Electrolux 89 hoses to sell to customers who want to make a hose for their cleaner. The only difference is it's plastic, but it will fit and work with your ZB55. Good luck and Happy...

    Top Side Canister Cord Rewinds

Paul, just so you know the cord clip on the Electrolux canisters was NOT unique to just the Electrolux USA models. Here in Canada, the lower line models in the Electrolux 80 series canisters, from 1957 to 1973 - the models 83, 86 & 87 - were equipped with a cord halo as standard equipment, and...

    1967 Kirby DS80 restoration lifestyle !

Beautiful work on the D80, David! And your website looks fantastic too. Keep your head up, avoid the negative nellies on here that criticized you, and keep up the good work.

Would My Electrolux Have Metal or Plastic Wands?

Michael, I think it was much earlier than that. I am going to guess that by 1994-1995, when the Renaissance came out, the base model Ambassador and 2100 would have got plastic non-electric wands for the floor brush. So it's likely your 2100 would have came with the plastic wands, not the metal ones.

    Miele Duoflex cordless stick

STUPID decision! They should have kept the TriFlex design. To me, the ability to use it in different configurations and the removable battery were the only things that made the Miele TriFlex "unique" in the marketplace. Considering you have a mono cyclonic system with a messy filter to wash and...

    Panasonic MC 6347

Alex, congrats on finding your dream machine! Like you said, don't let it go this time. I actually knew someone who had Gary's machine, the MC 6347. Really nice, well built machine, and those Panasonic uprights clean really well too. Panasonic, as far as I'm concerned, should be considered a...

Why is it taking Kirby so long

Kenny - Yes, I agree! The cleaning performance isn't the issue, it's the design of the product. Yet they have their hands tied behind their back a bit because they also can't deviate from the design too much. Eric - Yes, they could improve the fan or brushroll. But the carpet cleaning...

    Mystery Made In Germany

Guy, that is a neat stick vacuum! Does it have a powerhead receptacle like Miele did on their later stick vacs? Since you can't easily find the bags in North America or find someone to ship the Progress bags over from Europe, I think you have the perfect excuse to jury-rig it to take another...

Why is it taking Kirby so long

I don't see Kirby developing a new model at all. What I do see is they either stick with the G Series platform, or they go out of business entirely. The sad reality is, a Kirby does not work in modern homes! The machine does not do area rugs and hard floors as well or as easily as a modern...
