    Forgotten Eureka Products

Another "flash in the pan" Eureka that never appears on the internet, let alone in ebay listings: Eureka's clone of Regina's Electrikbroom with the little dirt cup that "empties like an ashtray". Both Hoover and Eureka came out with clones after the patent expired in the 1980's, but Hoover's...

Dangerous Toxins Found In Black Plastic

If the black-coloured vacuum tools are made from recycled plastic from electronics, they may have the same dangerous toxins as described in the news clip. Certainly, there must be less danger of the toxins from vacuum tools leaking out, as compared to black plastic spatulas heated during...

My recent find, a Hoover ultra self propelled windtunnel model U6425-920

I loved this Hoover Ultra SP Windtunnel after I bought it as a gift for my parents anniversary. Their condo had acres of plush carpeting and this Hoover made it a breeze to do the weekly vacuuming. My only gripe was that there was no suction relief valve on the hose handle to reduce the power...

    kenmore canister vacuum cleaner score

Hi Antoine, Felicitations on a great find! In the mid 1990’s, two of my friends in Toronto were looking to by a no-frills classic suction-only canister vacuum and they ended up buying the non-power nozzle version of your Kenmore at Sears….in the same Hunter Green colour. A very very good...

Dangerous Toxins Found In Black Plastic

Recent reports in the news are claiming that toxic flame retardant chemicals are being found at dangerously high levels in household utensils made of black plastic. See the YouTube clip below. Since most vacuums now include black attachments - especially those made by Wessel Werk - I wonder...

Royal 5000 hand vacuum and Hoover Pixie

Hi Paul, The only thing I can think of is that the copywriter meant to say “lawn furniture” - but they should have said “patio furniture”. Which could have been dangerous too, since none of these vacs are meant to be used outdoors or on wet surfaces… On a related note: Numatic has now...

    Miele Guard series

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Miele should develop a lightweight Oreck clone carpets-only upright to pair with their great canisters. Make it quieter than an Oreck and better at carpet cleaning too. The Oreck style of upright vacuum was first invented in West Germany by the...

(1972) Hoover Handivac model 2901 stick vacuum

Hi Paul! The third advertisement says “For lawns, furn. floors…”. Wonder what they mean? Surely, the user was not being invited to vacuum their outdoor lawn with the Pixie…strange.

    Hoover Constellation Curb Find!

Though I’m no Hoover expert, I prefer not attaching the tool caddy to any Constellation because the tools can mar furniture and walls if the canister sails into any of these surfaces. With the caddy onboard, the rubber bumper provides no protection. I discovered this problem when I bought the...

What are the point of looped handles?

I like the looped handle on my Hoover Lightweight Platinum bagged upright. Depending on the situation, having that loop helps me pull the vacuum back without having to really squeeze the handle to hold on to it, especially if I’ve switched hands to my weaker left hand. The other reason I like...

    Bad day today.

If you have a car, why not bring one of your bagged vacs to every gathering? Arrive early or stay late to do the vacuuming for them. Not sure if this is feasible…just an idea…

Joe k and I had fun yesterdsy

I wonder if Hoover and Eureka ever had friendly sports competitions, like a baseball game or a golf tournament or a hockey game. North Canton and Bloomington are not that far from each other.

Joe k and I had fun yesterdsy

John! You are now the proud owner of a red Eureka “Carry All” Tool Caddy! Always thought that was an ingenious design…. Glad you are branching out!

    Miele Guard series

Well, at least they kept the C3 and gave it a more secure bag docking system. They changed the upholstery nozzle on the C3: seems smaller with a shorter neck. It looks like they are coding the new Guard series as Small (S1), Medium (M1) and Large (L1).

    Miele Guard series

I don’t even like the name: Guard? Kind of falls flat. Is there no separate dusting brush to attach to the end of the wand?

    Miele Guard series

Those icons on the canister control panel are so small, there is no way the user will be able to press the correct button (including the cord rewind button) with their foot while standing up straight. Unless Miele provides special eyeglasses with the vacuum. Not good.

    Miele Guard series

The new Miele canisters also have a “2-in-1” upholstery nozzle + crevice tool. Would like to see a video if this in action, before I make a judgement….but I am always skeptical about these “combo” tools.

    Miele Guard series

It looks like Miele took notice of the problem with the sliding dust bag collar every time you open up the bag compartment. They are really highlighting the fact that the new Guard series has a new dust bag dock that does not let the bag collar slip up every time you open the compartment to...

How to start, where is the start button? Sears Kenmore Duopwer

Much prefer these “low to the ground” power switch pedals on canisters - Eureka had them too. The power buttons placed on top of canister bodies force the user to stand on one leg to push the button with your foot.

What is the “What Were They Thinking?!” Product of the vacuum world?

I’d like to nominate Eureka’s Vibra-Beat nozzle for “what were they thinking”? Consumer Reports famously said the noisy tool was really “much ado about nothing” as the vibrating rubber bars really did not increase cleaning effectiveness. The rows of vibrating bars seem to block air flow more...
