Here's a working Hoover 541 motor unit. No switch, but when wired up it runs great. Armature spins freely. Repaint it and use it on a vacuum or salvage it for a good armature, field coils, and brushes. $10 + shipping. Thanks!

Are there any vintage clothing dealers in your area? If so, find out where they get their clothing repairs done and have that person patch or reweave. Original bags are scarce.

If the fan is like my 541 and 700, you put a screwdriver in the slot on the motor shaft. Then you can twist the belt pulley and then the fan to loosen them. I believe it unscrews in the direction the motor spins. Whatever you do, save the bag. Even if its in shreds you can always use it for...

Good find! The 541 is an aluminum body. Originally they were supposed to be a dull cast aluminum, but the vast majority have been polished over the years. I would try using some Nev-R-Dull wadding before using anything more abrasive. Your bag _might_ be original, but I can't tell without seeing...

Nice. Robbins & Myers motor. The 105 and all other pre-700 machines were supposed to have come from the factory with a dull aluminum finish, but I've never found one that hasn't been shined up over the years. Pretty machine!

Be very careful with polishing Bakelite. (The antique radio collectors get into fits over this topic.) It is very possible to polish through the hard surface and get into porous substrate that will not polish to a shine. If I were you, I would use a plastic cleaner to get the Bakelite clean, use...

Thats why I remove the brushes via the screw-in plugs first. My 541 requires you to move the brush holder to remove the motor brushes, and you need 3 hands to put it all back together...

Hey guys, I was refurbishing my Hoover 700. I got the whole motor housing separated from the body and the impeller off the armature shaft. However, there's a plate behind the impeller held on my 4 screws. Are there any tricks for removing it? I'd also love to hear of any sources for replacement...

Thanks. Mine has a brass housing with a bakelite "finger" almost flush with the housing. I figured there would have been a larger knob or something to make it easier to work with the foot. If anyone else has a good photo, I would love to see it.

Does anyone have a picture of a what a Hoover 541 power switch looks like? Mine just has a bakelite nub remaining.
