    Kirby 510 restoration in progress

Hello everyone, I just wanted to share some photos of the ongoing restoration of a Kirby 510 that I recently acquired from a friend.

    Royal vs. Kirby

Kevlar/Lexan impellers on Kirbys Why does everyone get so excited about the name of the "plastic" that the impellers are made of? Kirby is a well-made vacuum cleaner (among the best, some would argue), and the bottom line is that the company would not CONTINUE to install an impeller that is...

    Kirby 500 series armature replacement

That's a beautiful vacuum cleaner..... On the armature question, I found out from Kent Oyler that part number 114967 is the armature to install in place of the 114960 (which is no longer available), and no further modifications should be needed!

Looking for advice, restoring Kirby 510

Does anyone have advice on how to effectively paint the depressed "Kirby" logo in the red plastic belt lifter on the 508-512 models? I know that the logo is supposed to be light gray/off-white, but the one I have has lost most of the original paint through age and flaking off. I thought about...

    Kirby 500 series armature replacement

I wanted to see if anyone can help me. Apparently, the original armature (114960) is no longer available for the 505-S7 models. Everywhere I look, the 114967 is the intended replacement currently available. So, I purchased and received the armature today. It is very similar, but the...

    Vintage Kirby design problems

I am sorry I came across that way. In all actuality, I agree with all of your responses. I STILL believe that Kirby is one of the best machines made...and has been one of the best throughout the past decades. "Over criticizing" would be my claiming that Kirby makes junk just because of a few...

    Vintage Kirby design problems

Here is a picture of the bar. As you can see, it is not bent. I was criticizing these design aspects based on much experience with many 500 series machines!

    Vintage Kirby design problems

The attaching lugs are not appreciably worn in this machine. In fact, this 519 is in excellent condition. Also, the corresponding bar is not bent, crooked or worn. I was merely comparing the old machines to the current Generation series design! The tabs on the back of the belt lifter...I...

    Vintage Kirby design problems

I don’t mean to attack the design of the old Kirbys, but I do need to vent some frustrations with some particular design aspects of the 500 model series that seem inherently problematic. If any of you have opinions, views, or solutions, please respond as I would like to hear your views on the...

    Royal Vacuums - A Model-to-Year Guide

Why is it.... ...that I can never find any information on the Royal 2000 upright that I purchased last month? The placard containing the serial number also indicates "F98C", which from what I can find out so far, means that it was manufactured in 1998.
