    Personal Experiences with Vacuum Lifespans

New vacuums bought today (and in the past 10 years) will give a MAX of about 10 years with a lot of care, before they're trashed. My mother bought a Compact C-4 in 1958 (and has always complained about the high price she paid), yet it's still in my possession and used on a regular basis. I've...

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

Mike, I'm so glad you like it. That was my blue Sears's best Kenmore PowerMate canister with two speed motor and full bag indicator light. It was so top of the line it came with two napped pads for the upholstery nozzle and the bare floor tool. It was, and is, a fantastic vacuum cleaner. The...

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

They are a thing of beauty and a joy forever. 1953, 1955, and 1956 Sears Kenmore KenKart vacuums. By June 1957, Sears had orchestrated a hostile takeover of Birtman Electric and it was all over but for the crying. These are my "three amigos".

    Royal 201 canister

That vacuum was also made as a SaniWay, a Kingston, and a Universal "Germatron", in addition to the other names already stated. The addition of ball casters and the elimination of a removeable dolly, indicate late model machines.

    Ghetto Vacuum Contraptions?

One of the former VCCC Presidents at one of the conventions made a "Water Buffalo" by connecting a Bison Mark III to a Rexair model C. It worked and he won the "Frankenvac" category.

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

The 1955 Kenmore "705" is, in my opinion, the best of all the KenKarts. It's quieter than the other versions and doesn't tip due to its three-point wheel carriage and low center of gravity. It's a joy to use and was the first Kenmore to offer an optional cord winder like Electrolux had. I...

1953 was a very good year to be a Kenmore.

Marking a Milestone - Stan Kann

The Fox Theater in Saint Louis put on a special performance of the Mighty Wurlitzer organ, which rises from the floor on a cushion of air from the Spencer central vac blowers. Stan played the organ there for several decades before going to L.A. and the bright lights of T.V. Many photos and...

    Electrolux olyimpia power nozzle

What you need is called the "wheel cover plate" and is number eight in Paul's breakdown. Easily obtainable.

    Question about ge Roll easy

The original hose was turquoise vinyl, and they split a lot. Like a LOT. That was the replacement about 1960 when they went back to the rubber hose with braiding. Try pushing in on the hose inlet tube before trying to pull it out.

    Vintage Kenmore Thread

Beevac I have the attachment converter for these models. It plugs directly into the back. I have a question for you about the bearings in the 719. Do the bearings have to be replaced in their entirety, or is there a shield that is removable so that you can re-grease the original bearing? If...

I stopped by a local vac shop to explore around in its graveyard...

I made the decision a few years ago to take all the 'boneyard' machines in my vac shop to the dumpster. If new repair parts are not available, I'm not storing old vacs to take a used part off to fix someone's cleaner. I've sold a lot of new vacuums that way, plus I don't have to keep crap just...

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

The first KenKart showed up by 1950. For someone who used all of their attachments all of the time, this was a wonderful machine. Many people don't realize that it could be operated horizontally as well as vertically. This one is one of the jewels of my collection. Mine was made in 1954. In one...

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

Mid 1970's Kenmore "Sears Best" with powermate. What an amazing machine to use with its two speed motor, full bag indicator, 10 foot hose, and solid-state power nozzle belt protection.

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

In 1958, Sears brought out the power mate attachment for their Lady Kenmore Vacuum. Thanks to my friend Hans I have one in my collection. Over built, over engineered, and over thought, it was the very first. I love it, I use it, and it still works fabulously.

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

One of my favorites was the Lady Kenmore Whispertone. It used the same two speed lamb motor that filter queen used in their machine. Just think, by 1962, Sears had the electric pistol grip hose and L shaped power nozzle with a headlight, A two speed motor, a full bag indicator, and full...

The genius Sears vacs from Birtman Electric

Many people have a favorite Sears Kenmore vacuum in their collection. In getting my collection ready for sale, as we are closing the museum, I have been re-introduced to the genius that was coming out of Chicago in the 30s, 40s, and 50s. Here is a Kenmore "top of the line" upright from 1953...

Lewyt vintage vacuums and new-old electric razors

I'd be willing to let sell it to someone who will take care of it and appreciate it. Very reasonable price. Can't ship as it has the hassock, would have to be picked up by someone.
