Kirby 103960 field coil compatible with...?

Got a brand new 103960 coil for cheap, bought on impulse since its price was very low compared to the average going prices for Kirby coils. I know it's a one-speed coil (so pre-Dual Sanitronic) but which models/armature #'s/amperages are compatible with this coil? Upon quick googling, some...

    Forgotten Commercial Products

Metal-base Sanitaire F&Gs are definitely rare I have an early 70s Sanitaire 643, which is very rare. You wouldn't know it because it resembles the newer Sanitaires from 10-20 feet away. But the main difference between this and the newer Sanitaires is the fact that the 643 harkened back to a...

    1930s Hoover Model 300 questions

I acquired a Model 300 Hoover about a month ago and have questions. Motor - it appears to have sleeve bearings at the top and bottom of the motor. I've always heard about greasing classic Hoover bearings (but then I always thought that sleeve bearings took oil). What's the right lubrication for...

Why is it taking Kirby so long

Based on how industries handle model-specific tooling and molds at the end of a model run, I'm afraid that the Royal tooling is probably long gone and scrapped. Otherwise we'd be seeing Royal knockoffs at this point as TTI would have sold the tooling to another company.

Why is it taking Kirby so long

Kirby should revert back to the 500 series... specifically a modernized Dual Sanitronic 50 and ditch Tech Drive. Squeeze the 7A Gxx motor in the shell, keep the Amodel fan (even though Kirby fans, no pun intended, prefer the metal fans- the Amodel fans are superior in durability and that would...

    Kirby 50th anniversary ?

I've always wondered why they made the jump from Dual Sanitronic 50 to Dual Sanitronic 80. I've also wondered what the meaning was behind the name "Sanitronic". The -tronic suffix usually implies electronically or computer controlled. If it was because of the relative complexity of the dual...

The worst looking Hoover Decade 80 for almost $600???!! CHECK THIS OUT

Maybe 100 years from now this would be a fair price when there's maybe less than a dozen surviving and running examples on the planet, but until then the Decade 80 is much newer and somewhat more common than, say, something like a S&F Sanitation System. It was produced 40 years ago, and was...

    Barn find Hoover and GE

I can just picture a black widow under the motor shell... I'm always nervous when tearing into an old machine that was stored in a shed, attic, garage or barn. I have an irrational fear of black widow spiders. Luckily I haven't come across any even though a few vacs I've taken were just covered...

    Have a 10-blade 516-Trad Kirby metal fan...will it work w/ 514?

I had intentions to build a Hentria (Heritage bag Sentria) with a 10-blade metal fan but the Sentria is sitting in a tote, in my garage, still waiting to be built and polished. However, I came across a Model 514 with a six-blade metal fan. The six blade has a chip on one of the outer edges of...

Recently got a hold of a 514 Kirby...have some questions

The switch is a "push push" rather than the flip/toggle style. I wonder if this machine is cobbled together now that you confirmed my suspicions of having a 3A armature. The fan case has the 514 data plate (with the 4A rating), yet the armature is the old 3A (which I'm not complaining, I'd...

Recently got a hold of a 514 Kirby...have some questions

Also, are there any particular places where date codes may be cast onto the machine's castings?

Recently got a hold of a 514 Kirby...have some questions

Got around to tearing into it last night to clean it and assess its condition, but I have some questions. 1. Armature - I vaguely remember reading about 4A Kirby motors and the motors basically being the same from the late 513 to the S7. However, my armature resembles a 3A one, based on the...

Converting a vintage Eureka 2090A ESP into (basically) a two-speed Sanitaire QuietClean SC889-help!

I came across a 2090A ESP in wonderful condition, except for the motor, of which the bearings were pretty shot. I know that there is a two-speed Sanitaire upright (SC889), but for the life of me, cannot find a detailed wiring diagram for this machine. I'm only able to find exploded parts...

Recently acquired a 2spd Eureka 2090A. Motor is dead. Want to use Sanitaire 2 spd

Yeah, Sanitaire actually has a 2-speed for sale It's called the Quiet Clean SC899. It has a switch on the loop handle to bump it down to a lower speed. Probably for hotels, hospitals, etc so they can clean hallways and common areas without disturbing anyone. However, the Eureka ESP had a...

How does one go about adding a metal fan to a G Series Kirby?

Have a sentria that has been sitting in my garage. Had the intention of turning it into a Hentria (Heritage bag w/ a metal fan) but was busy & preoccupied with other things. I know something has to be done with the front bearing plate to get a 500/Classic-series fan to work in a G-Series, but...

Recently acquired a 2spd Eureka 2090A. Motor is dead. Want to use Sanitaire 2 spd

I knew the original motor was toast based on the grinding sound and extreme difficulty in spinning the fan (bearings were shot beyond repair, and Eureka/Sanitaire bearings aren't the easiest to service), however, the bag, base, hood and handle were in excellent condition and I knew that 2spd...

Thinking about sending a 1CR off to Kirby for a rebuild

I have a 1CR that's in pitiful condition sitting in my garage, waiting to roam the carpet once again. I've been too busy to pay any attention to it. Pretty much, I've only sanded out the scratches and cleaned out the motor. Put new bearings on but the cooling fan seems to come in contact with...

    Kirby 1CR armature/shaft moves horizontally

If you pull on the shaft the cooling fan behind the bearing plate touches the bearing plate. Bearings are new. What gives?

    You rarest Vacuum cleaner

Early 1970s Sanitaire 643 You will find Lexan-base Sanitaires all day long as they are as common as the dirt they pick up but the old cast-aluminum base ones, with the square brushroll ends clipped in by spring levers, are quite rare. I also have an early 70s JCPenney Hoover Convertible, which...

Field coil screws for Kirby 1CR -- are there spacers between the coil and the motor shell?

I've had my 1CR apart and in pieces in preparation for reassembly for a while now. Not sure if I lost anything, something is telling me there's spacers between the rear of the coil and the motor shell where the field coil screws thread through, but I'm not positive. Does the field coil have...
