Trash find of a life time

Oooof. What a find. Two large sitting on the side of the road. Guess you can call it a Curby Now think about how many people drove by that vacuum and didn't see what you saw. Lucky? Yes, but luck is when preparation meets opportunity. In a way you earned that one. Good job.

A late 60s Sears Best 2 speed canister

This is my favorite really old Kenmore canister. 4.1 peak horses, variable speed motor via a dial on the rear of the lid that operates a potentiometer and the off/on/floor switch was on the hose. The original hose fell apart circa 2007 or 2008 and when I re-hosed it I wasn't even thinking of...

Can you scan that page and show it here or e-mail it to me? I have no literature on mine. I would really appreciate it.

A late 60s Sears Best 2 speed canister

Supersweeper, if you take the prices Sears was charging for those and inflate them to 2014 dollars you were paying the equivalent of $1000 today to buy one of those. They were very expensive vacuums.

A late 60s Sears Best 2 speed canister

I have one of those. That's the Avocado Bombers twin brother. The lower half is a medium green with just a hint of blue in it. The top is mint green. The lower half is steel and the lid plastic. If you pop the palm of your hand on and off the hose end while it's running there is enough lid...

Is he a Fool or a Sage...What's Your Verdict?

Might be sptyks, but have you ever worked a joint project with the Chair Force? Nothing is too expensive for them.

I Need some vintage Kenmore bags

Hey Tom, want to save a rare Kenmore from being parted out on ebay? An ebay seller I know has a late 1980's Whispertone with the infinitely adjustable speed motor. It has the unique hose with the sliding speed adjustment on top, a three position off/on/floor switch facing the operators thumb...

    Modifying an Electrolux Model CB

Making a cord with the necessary ends is a great idea. Keep all the original stuff original. Make the cord up out of items that are not collectable or otherwise valuble. I did that to adapt a Wessel-Werk brush to a Kenmore wand.

Electrolux Buys GE's Major Appliance Division

Eluxa has a valid point that applies to many more industries than appliances. For the benefits of a competitive market to be manifest in an economy, there has to be competition. When Adam Smith and David Ricardo wrote their famous works on economics, both made the assumption that a market...

This is the ultimate old Chrysler product IMHO

Heh, heh, heh, I'm old enough to have been a rabid car nut when those Chrysler Turbine Cars were being tested. Leno has a motorcycle powered by a small gas turbine taken from a helicopter. A problem with both is the temperature of the exhaust. The big M-1 Abrams tank is powered by a gas...

    TTI/Oreck expanding in USA

It doesn't matter what country you want to talk about, the Chinese anywhere will cut any corner they think they can get away with to make a buck. You don't apparently live with Chinese people as I do. I'm in a mixed Chinese family. It's a gold rush mentality. It doesn't matter which country...

Is he a Fool or a Sage...What's Your Verdict?

Those gold plated Kirbys must be something the US Air Force ordered. They gold plate everything they buy. Just saying .................... Probably use them for vacuuming the clubhouse at the golf course.

    Modifying an Electrolux Model CB

In theory, yes. But you would have to make sure the replacement outlet is sized the same as the original. Putz around an old hardware store that has been in business a few decades. They will likely have what you are looking for or know where to get it. I have to say that it would be helpful...

    Electrolux

There are no significant import duties on major appliances manufactured in Mexico and sold in the US. I don't know where Bloomberg gets their information from. A lot of Whirlpool, Samsung and Panasonic products are assembled in Mexico for this very reason.

    Anyone use one of these?

So this thing has to have water filtration for dry vacuuming? No bags. Hmmm. I like the idea of one machine being able to do both dry vacuuming and wet extraction but not crazy about water filtration for dry vacuuming.

    Unknown hand held vacuum

I found a November 1933 newspaper ad for a House Maid vacuum with the price shown in Pounds Sterling. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1301&dat=19331117&id=Z_NUAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8JEDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3416,1872769

    Help save a rare Kenmore!

An ebay seller is a friend of mine and she often offers me interesting old Kenmore vacs. I have bought from her in the past, both parts and whole vacuums. Early today I saw a really rare Kenmore Whispertone from the late 80's or maybe 1990 with a variable speed motor. It included the...

Electrolux Buys GE's Major Appliance Division

This isn't the first time GE tried to sell it's appliance division. Electrolux was in negotiations to buy the division six or seven years ago along with Samsung and LG but the Great Recession caused the negotiations to collapse. Appliances make up about 6% of GE's business. Their financial...
