That's interesting. I have a gold G5 with the same thing, no BPI and the older style emptor. Also have a gold ultimate G without a serial number. I remember I tried to contact the kirby company about this but they said they needed a serial number to look up the vacuum.

Thank you. I'll try that out. Someone in the Kirby Group on Yahoo informed me that the coloring might also be anodized? Will the anodized color rub off if polished or tarnish? Thanks to anyone who has any ideas.

Since you mention this problem, I have several G Series Kirby's that have this problem also, and it's because that little lever has worn. They make that sort of grinding noise when in neutral. Does anyone know where to find a replacement lever? Thanks.

I think it's a neat toy, but like I mentioned above, its always getting pet hair and gunk wrapped on the shaft between the two turbine fans. I think the earlier style turbo brush that was available with the Kirby heritage does a better job though. I also think the sounds they make when attached...

I have both a G3 and a G4, I haven't really noticed many differences other than the color scheme. The one difference I did notice was that the pin that allows you to tilt the Kirby up is different between the two machines...other than that all the same. The filtration bags might be different...

The fantom line is no longer made. I don't think they are too rare. I used to have one, it was one of my favorite vacuuums. Very quiet and easy to use. My brother broke the neck on the power nozzle, so I tossed it. :(
