One of our neighbors growing up came from a poor share croper family in Mississippi. Her husband was in the army there. She was 16 when they met. They married two years later and moved north for a better life. He wanted her to have everything. They spent like crazy and accumulated much debt...
I think the older Hoovers before the TTI acquisition were better and more repairable. At least for carpet cleaners like the first generation spin scrubs.
My only experience with Kirby since a teenager when my folks found a Dual Sanitronic 50 at a garage sale in very nice shape was this;
We had just bought our house in 1995. A phone call from a young gal named Comfort, if you believe that. She asked me if we had carpeting and would like a cleaner...
My grandmother's Elux 30, two aunts Compacts, and another's Filter Queen in the early 80s all bought from a home sale. I think as more began owning cars, and shopping centers had appliance and specialty vacuum shops, it was a new trend.
I don't know if still today, but several years back I let a Rainbow salesman in and do a demo. He put the upholstery tool on and vacuumed my carpet and the water was a bit grey. He gifted me the carving knife set even though I declined a purchase. Those things had tangs that were wider than the...
I liked vacuums from at least 4 yrs. old. Then cars and other appliances. Maybe it was the different aesthetic designs. I often asked people which brands and types they had. I spotted an aunts seafoam Electrolux "G" behind her sofa, and asked where's the hose? It's a secret I was told.

Some models which I am familiar with are later than say 1970? Harmony, Ingenio, Dimbo, Slimline, Dolphin. Some may just have a different name per their market country, like the Ultra Silencer?
Yes, I think a few Kenmore canisters were by Sanyo. I like the Japanese Panasonics too. I think one was used as a prop in the home of Simon and Wai Tung in the 1993 "Wedding Banquet" movie. Unless it was a Haitachi but it was large and white with dark brown or black bumper strips, chrome wands...
Depends on the carpeting,. I find that wooden brush rolls get threads around them that grind in lines. The Vibragroomers all keep the dense pile carpeting looking good.
My 10.5 amp 2 stage Lamb motor never got that loud. Just some minor squealing you only heard when it shut off. Then one day it just seized up. The original brushes were still very good. It did last 28 years.
I have a Plastiflex cv electric gas pump handle hose. When I use my Eureka Vibragroomer power head from the 1279/89 canisters, it's a bit too short for me. The Eureka steel grip is a few inches longer.
