Kirby and Electrolux are my two favorite brands. I have complete tool sets for most of my Kirbys, but like you, I tend to pull out an Electrolux when I need tools.

You could use the G4 brush roll in a later Kirby without modification. Just install it as though it were in a G4, with the magnet on the 'wrong' side for the later machine. The little LED indicating that the brush roll is turning won't work, but it will otherwise be just fine.

With the switch guard, that's one of the last ones, from about 1988 or so. However you wash that bag, I don't think you have to worry much about it fading, compared to the earlier gray and red ones.
