    VCCC Convention Video

Would anyone have a video copy of CBS Sunday Morning "Vacuum Cleaners Unite" with Bill Geist (2003)? My VHS copy has been compromised. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has a taped or disc copy to share. Thanks in advance. --Bernie Mehlbaum

GE Vacuum AVF - 801 - Some Questions

Donald O'Connor Hi John - long time! Good to hear from you. Thanks for the updater. Mr. O'Connor and the entire crew at his shop were extremely hospitable to me. And yes, seems he did have a few Oldsmobiles in the mix. ;-)) --Bernie Mehlbaum

    Electrolux Bearing Replacement

Bearing puller Take it to an Electrolux shop and have them pull it off for you with their tool. The dealers are often happy to do this for free just to generate good will. You could also find out from them what kind and where to buy that puller for future use, since you have all those bearings.

GE Vacuum AVF - 801 - Some Questions

So Kewl ! Hi Fred, Those are great brochures! Love it when you can assemble all the original stuff. As for the ball-bearing issue, Hans is right. God forbid you'd lose your balls! The balls are not contained in a race - they are in there loose. If the spindle turns freely, I'd leave it alone...

GE Vacuum AVF - 801 - Some Questions

Brush re-bristling Hi Fred - you're entirely welcome. One note about brush re-bristling: You may find the new bristles longer and in need of trimming to the desired length. Hope this helps. --Bernie

    Lux Model E

sparking Thankfully, it's not the end of the world when this happens. Check the motor's brush carbons. Since this is an old machine, the carbons may be worn beyond service limits. Good though, you caught it early. Try dressing the commutator with some emery cloth or a "Comm-stick" and replace...

GE Vacuum AVF - 801 - Some Questions

Nice find! The rear bearing is a ball-bearing type and is sealed with grease. They usually go a long way before needing service. The Premier version of this cleaner is nearly identical. The gentleman who has re-bristled for me is in Youngstown, Ohio. ...trying to think of his name. Surely...

    Hoover 541 switch?

Hoover 541 switch Attached is a photo of another 541. This one is a dog and was hiding in my shed but I accepted it when it was offered. One second thought, the base metal of the switch cover may not be non-ferrous brass due to the appearance of some rust --Bernie.

    Hoover 541 switch?

More 541 photos Hi Brandon. At last count, I have about two 541's and one 543. They all have the same switch which may be brass under the bright plating. Attached are some additional photos. As you can see in the last photo, even the Hoover Baby has the same switch. Hope this helps. --Bernie

    Landers, Frary & Clark

Landers, Frary & Clark Landers, Frary & Clark were generic makers of vacuum cleaners of many brands. I've had many off-brand vacs that were produced by that company. Universal is just one.

Please recommend me a vacuum for cockroaches

roach infestation YES!!! I live in Florida where we have huge cockroaches(it may be the state bird). Need I say more? We Floridians have to be experts or get taken over with pests. What has worked best for me are the roach bait feeders, where the roaches enter, eat the special food and take...

    Kirby bag washing

Kirby bag-washing Hint: I found that Woolite works well in tepid water. I hang the dripping bag in the shower or outside on a nice day. My trick is to then place the damp bag back on the machine for a final blow-dry.
