    Hamilton Beach No.12....

OK... I'm thinking that the clue to the date of production of the No.12 could lie within the serial number. Serial numbers on other products often contain dates of manufacture. I will ass-u-me that serial# 523669 could be decoded as 5-2-36. Since the model 14 was in production in 1941, let's...

    Hamilton Beach No.12....

HB was sold to Scovill Mfg. in 1922..... History Founded in April 1910 by inventor Frederick J. Osius in Racine, Wisconsin, the Hamilton Beach Manufacturing Company took its name from two men Osius hired, Louis Hamilton and Chester Beach. He hired Hamilton as the new company's advertising...

    Hamilton Beach No.12....

Hi guys.... I found a 1946 ad for a model 14 on Ebay, and it's interesting that John has an ad for the 14 dating from 1941. That puts it back a ways in time. The question I have now is: Was the model 12 produced as a price-pointed version of the 14, or was it a model produced before the 14...

    Hamilton Beach No.12....

My opening statement... was a bit confusing. I goofed. It should read: I DON'T know anything about this machine. Can't image there'd be a ton of Hamilton Beach vacuum collectors. The serial# on this machine is 523669. If anyone could make some sense of that, I'd be thrilled. Thanks.

    Hamilton Beach No.12....

Hi John... The height adjustment is on right the side by turning the knob, as you can see in the photo. It has lots of what appears to be deco trim but really haven't a clue about its age. I've seen model 14's painted and unpainted but know nothing about this particular unit other than the fact...

    Vintage vac question's

Congratulations on joining this forum today! I think Jeff is more correct on the dates of your machines than I am. As he points out, they are only worth what someone else is willing to pay. My advice, as always, is to post them on the Ebay auction for 99 cents with NO RESERVE. What they sell...

    Vintage vac question's

Apparently your 475 dates from 1935(see link). The 475 featured in the video does not have the original bag either. The attached photo will give you an idea of what an original 475 bag looks like. The 475 bag shown in the photo is mounted on an earlier Hoover model 450.

    Vintage vac question's

Hi - the Eureka is from the early to mid 20's. Check the patent dates on the boiler plate. The last date will likely reveal it's age. The other is a Hoover model 475 around 1939 consistent with the larger model 825.

    Yellowed Dirt Finder Lenses

It's settled... Some 61's had glass lenses, plainly evidenced by Fred's, mine and Brandon's observations. ...just finished reading an autobiography by Henry Dreyfus. One of the many things he was concerned with in the products he designed was safety, as well as quality, appeal, performance...

    Yellowed Dirt Finder Lenses

Model 61..... I won't belabor the point, but my 61 lens was glass, shattered and sharp. Perhaps some were made with glass then updated to plastic for that reason, safety being a consideration.

Value of Kirby Sanitronic in the box

Go to Ebay... This is not an appraisal site. It is for serious collectors. May I suggest you post your cleaner on Ebay for 95 cents with NO RESERVE and see what it brings. That will be the true measure of what it is worth. Hope this helps.

Value of Kirby Sanitronic in the box

Since it appears to fairly well used, I'd say that $45 would be a good price. Hope this helps.

    Kirby 500 series belt?

The newer style knurled belts are much stronger and have less give. I can see where stretching a knurled belt on the older 500 series might cause the flimsy belt lifter to snap. It has happened to me as well. Otherwise, I believe the dimensions of both older and newer knurled belts might be...

    Yellowed Dirt Finder Lenses

The model 61 lens was glass. Funny though, it seems that the 61 was the only Hoover model designed with a glass lens. Good luck with your plastic lens yellowing problem. Hope it works out well for you.

    Yellowed Dirt Finder Lenses

Sounds like a good solution - basically bleach but of the oxygenated type and perhaps gentler than chlorine. Would be interested in knowing how this works out for you guys.

    Yellowed Dirt Finder Lenses

I have used the plastic head light cleaner on cars. The kit I used was a three-step process and required a LOT of HARD rubbing and pressure. That much pressure might crack a relatively delicate Hoover lens, as the kits are designed to restore hard polycarbonate plastic automobile headlamp...
