Introducing "The Vacuum Archives"! (And the Hoover Factory Tour Book)

Hi Ray, I replied to your email earlier today. They got caught in the junk folder and I didn't see them.

Introducing "The Vacuum Archives"! (And the Hoover Factory Tour Book)

I sent you an email with my address. You can send anything digital you'd like, I'll let you know if I can use it or not. I do prefer to scan the originals for quality control purposes, if possible. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way so far!

Introducing "The Vacuum Archives"! (And the Hoover Factory Tour Book)

Just added a bunch of new manuals this morning, including a very nice copy of "How to Judge an Electric Cleaner" by the Hoover Company.

Does anyone know about this vacuum

It's a Bissell carpet sweeper, made in Grand Rapids, MI. Not a vacuum cleaner per se. Here is a manual for one I just scanned for you. Not the exact same model, but you'll get the general idea.[this post was last edited: 1/15/2016-23:27]...

I just tested the email address and it is now working properly. Here's a sneak preview of a few new manuals on the way!

Introducing "The Vacuum Archives"! (And the Hoover Factory Tour Book)

I have updated the file system to be a little more user friendly, as well as adding a search feature. I I have also added a few Electrolux manuals as of late last night. Enjoy! Ray, regarding the email address: it should be working later today, I had to make a few changes to the DNS...

Introducing "The Vacuum Archives"! (And the Hoover Factory Tour Book)

Thank you all, it's truly appreciated! Digital submissions would be accepted as well, contact me for details on the specifics of how the images need to be scanned so that I can assemble them to be of the same quality as the other manuals in the archives. Once I have the backend set up...

Help! My Apex Has a Flat Tire :-(

Filing a claim isn't really my main concern, I'd really just like to find a pair of rear wheels for it since these are pretty uncommon and I have about 5 different Apex models now. The machine appeared to have been well wrapped, but unfortunately Bakelite is just so brittle in the cold. I...

    1927 Hoover Model 700

Make sure to cross-reference the part numbers on those strips. Gary doesn't always list the correct model number.

Help! My Apex Has a Flat Tire :-(

UPS delivered my new Apex yesterday with one smashed Bakelite rear wheel, and one cracked one. I'm guessing they were quite rough with the box. Does anyone happen to have any spare Apex parts sitting around, or perhaps know of a place that may still have stock?

Restored Kirby 509 completed a second time

I don't know about the 509, but both of my 505s had washers on the (original) wheels. I believe my 508 did too but I can't remember for sure.

    Help with bakelite.

There's nothing wrong with different techniques, we are here to share such information, after all. I tend to be on the conservative side with my restorations, leaving a few scratches and dings vs. aggressively sanding, grinding, or re-painting. Beautiful telephone restorations by the way! I have...

    Help with bakelite.

Like I said, only in the most dire of situations would I use steel wool, and only 0000. Yours likely would not need that. Try mothers first. I've polished a TON of old Bakelite telephones, clocks, appliances, vacuums, and car parts using that and Novus 2. Paste wax can also be applied to prolong...

    Help with bakelite.

I usually polish Bakelite with either Novus 2 plastic polish or for tough cases, I'll use Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish on it first, then the Novus (with 0000 steel wool as the last resort.) Those products should be on the shelf of anyone that restores old things. The finishing touch is either...

    VERY Rare Hoover Book

A few people have informed me that the seller is an unsavory character. It's been paid for, and I'm sure he won't jeopardize his rating of over 2500 / 100% positive feedback on eBay to pull any funny business at this point. I'm glad to relieve him of his ownership duties and give it a safe home...

    The Great HEPA Debate

I did read the whole topic, I was just putting my opinion and experience out there for anyone who cares.
