    Hoover Convertible - beyond repair

I found this at a junk shop today - the guy wanted $20, but I told him that the motor was frozen and the rear wheel assembly was broken. He thought about it for a minute and said, "you can have it for free". I gave him $5, but I think "free" was a fair price. Are these motors rebuildable or are...

    Dumpster Royal Canister

ooops It was made in 1998 (not 1988 as I said before). I generally prefer the vintage stuff, but this vacuum is quickly becoming my favorite!

    Dumpster Royal Canister

It does look totally different (and I think better). The caddy came off easily and could be put back on with four rivets or screws. It turns out this vacuum was made in 1988, but it looks much older. I'm still waiting for a new filter and disposable bags so that I can really try it out!

Same camera (iPhone) - different light and no plastic tool caddy in the way.

    Dumpster Royal Canister

Not sure of the age of this machine, so I posted it in the "contemporary" section. Now I'm thinking it might be around 20 years old? http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?15164_11t

    Dumpster Royal Canister

    oh, and I read it wrong - it's a model 4600.

    Dumpster Royal Canister

To replace that pigtail, will I need a special tool or is it a"cut and solder" kind of a job? Who is a good source for Royal parts? Hesco? -After thinking about the 3 - 2 prong comment, I realized my mistake... As far as taking the taking the tool saddle off, it just seems to me that there's...

    Dumpster Royal Canister

i kind of want to remove the tool caddy - I think it would look much cleaner as just a "tank". The caddy is riveted on and I'm not sure how easy it would be to re-attach the handle and power switch.

three prongs where it plugs into the tank, but two at the nozzle?

    Dumpster Royal Canister

Found this in a dumpster behind a vacuum shop by my house - the only thing I could find wrong with it is that one of the electrical connector prongs where the hose plugs into the tank is corroded - seems to work great! It says its a model 4500.

    Hoover Convertible 707

cut a wad of hair off the fan and from the middle of the brushroll, but I haven't even fired it up yet. It's such an ugly color that it's almost beautiful!

    Hoover Convertible 707

I picked this up this morning for $15 - brought it home and did a little cleaning. How do you get the hood off of these? Are screws on the bottom holding it on? The light lens is loose and I want to try to secure it. Any hints are greatly appreciated!

    Estate Sale Eureka

Found a "square end" brush roll at the "old timer" vacuum shoppe by me. The "old timer" behind the counter said he had at least 8 of them in the back for $17 each (which is a much friendlier price than what I was finding on eBay). If anyone needs one, let me know and I can pick one up and put it...

Is this a "shake out" bag? If so, can it be converted to a disposable bag? Any info would be great! THANKS!
