I managed to ease off part of the label and get the belt lifter off, what a state, now much cleaner. Its a pity about the plastics and paintwork otherwise it could turn out to be a tidy machine. The outer casing looks shinier than it really is as I still have some light mottling which appears...

I think I am going to struggle with the belt lifter though as it is well rusted but still operates, I may just do the best I can with a dremel and wire brush but would like to clean out between the washers. I would like to get that off but cant source labels in the Uk.

Some updated images to show some progress. I dont think I will hold on to this one but sell it on as the paintwork is peeling on some parts of the lower case where there was corrosion and I cant renovate that. I have put most of the shell back together temporarily but that was mainly to check...

It is a G5, getting all the rough crap of it now, nothing seized and considering all the crap that came out of the fan housing the other internals dont look too bad. I used a wire brush on my bench grinder to get the rough off the inside of fan housing and will smooth it off with steel wool...

Apparently it was stored in a garden shed for a few years. The slide for the transmission moves freely so I reckon it will be ok. The image below shows the innards and they are not too bad except for a few cobwebs, not much evidence of corrosion. With what I scraped of from the inside of the fan...

I got this given to me...I wonder why :-) After a quick look I reckon a few days to get this back up to a nice shiny Kirby. Nothing appears to be seized but at this stage dare not switch it on until I have a closer look. I will post more images as I progress.

It looks like I will need to purchase another brush as the cap ends on this one dont come off.

Is it possible to swap the cap ends on a Kirby head Or reposition the magnet to the other end of the roller. My own use Kirby could do with a new roller brush and the spare I have has the indicator at the opposite end also the large & small end caps opposite to what would fit. My wifes Kirby...

UPDATE: Now sorted, I bent the tang out a bit to get a better connection and the headlamp is now working. :-)

The top wire that was disconnected in the image on 2nd reply above (blue) attached is an image of the socket quite difficult to see but there is a metal prong in there that the wire should push in to. Is there part missing ie maybe a tang broken off or is the part in there maybe needing teased...

I found those ok the blue wire was the loose one and I reconnected, the red one disappears down below somewhere so it looks like I will need to further dismantle to find where it is attached.

Headlamp not working, bulb is ok. When I opened up the case there was a loose terminal, I reconnected this but still not working, the loose terminal gave me a continuity reading between that and at the bulb socket. The two wires that come from the headlamp one which was loose and reconnected...

Thanks for that info Bill. Going by the code on the side of the case it was manufactured in 1992. It will be interesting to see how it operates when I put it back together as I am more used to the spring operated versions in later models.

On the attached image which is the yoke slide, it would appear that the spring is missing, having said that I cant see where a spring would be attached nor any evidence of the little spring brackets that hold the spring having been removed. Any thoughts on this.
