    Well, I got the compact apart and have given the case a facelift. Here it is ready for reassembly. As for the motor, I had a heck of a time getting the fan case off (someone had super glued it) and of course it almost exploded apart when I finally got it. Brushes look real good but the bearings...

    Hello all. Anyone know how to get the motor out of a Interstate (Compact) vac? The casing of the vac appears to have only 1 screw near the back of the housing. Do you have to pry the shell apart and remove the bumper?

    Rattle can jobs can work, given proper prep and usage. Not el cheapo types, but a good quality rattle can job can hold up in my experience. I believe that Rego guy referenced some weeks ago does use the rattle can. Nothing wrong with that
