Compact Electra 'new in box' does not work - need advice

Thanks to everyone who posted here! I did check the machine, everything with the cannister itself seems to be fine. I will be dropping it off today at a vac shop I found that does do work on motors. I was happy about this because I want to keep the original motor if this is a repair that can be...

Compact Electra 'new in box' does not work - need advice

Thanks for the posts. My Gold Compact did not come with a power nozzle or turbo, they did not have any left when I contacted them. I will try to see if I can get the machine to a shop that knows Tristar/Compact. When we had a new motor put in my sister in laws, it just didn't seem as powerful...

Compact Electra 'new in box' does not work - need advice

Actually the motor is running, the machine just has absolutely no suction at all right from the base. Nothing blocking the motor, and a clean bag, makes sound like motor is going fine, but no suction.

Compact Electra 'new in box' does not work - need advice

I bought a Gold Compact Electra supposedly 'new in box' from a person who also sold to many other members on this site the same type of vac. She claimed her father had a warehouse full of them, which were never used. She shipped me 2, one for myself, one for my sister in law. The one I gave...

    How Does a Rexair Work?

I had a Rainbow for 20 years and it never looked like the pictures shown, because I never stored on base, and always cleaned the separator. It was very powerful, did a great job, and the house always smelled fresh and clean. I traded in for a new ESERIES model, which also has lots of power...

TRISTAR CXL power nozzle - need some advice

Rob posted that there is a metal adapter available to convert the wands to work with any powernozzle. Does anyone know who might carry that item, how I could get it? Also, would you happen to know if the cord and plug supplied with the Dust Care PBII that was recommended would fit the tristar...

TRISTAR CXL power nozzle - need some advice

Thanks to all that posted responses here! I took the CXL nozzle to a local vac shop. The FIRST thing he said to me when I walked in with it is 'oh, that thing is VERY old, I probably can't even get parts for it'. Well, I looked him right in the eye and said, well if I can get parts off the...

TRISTAR CXL power nozzle - need some advice

I have a Tristar CXL model, and the power nozzle is pretty much in bad shape. I wanted to replace the power nozzle with a new one, since I have had the current one fixed several times and have been told it is pretty much shot. I found on greatvacs.com a NEW Sweep n Groom Vacuum Head for...

New Kirby or Rebuild any suggestions?

Thanks to ALL that have responded so far! I did call distributors out of my area as suggested here, none of them ever called me back for a sale, which I found strange. I told the Kirby company this when I called. They claim the lack of distributors was due to the economy. I will also try...

New Kirby or Rebuild any suggestions?

In the area I live (upstate NY), I discovered there are pretty much NO Kirby distributors within at least a 75 or 100 mile radious from where I live, and the one dealer I could find wants $1500 for a new Kirby (I thought this price was kind of high), so I guess there is now way for me to make...

    Why Tristars?

I agree with all that was stated by other members above, I have a Tristar CXL which is very light, easy to get around with, excellent suction, and very durable. It is probably by far the strongest cannister I have seen or used, cleaning results better than any other cannister I have seen. The...

Filter Queen - What filters do I need?

Thanks for the information, greatly appreciated. Do you happen to know if the newer models of Filter Queen have more direct connect to the power nozzle and hose. On the model my niece has you have to bend and manually unplug the power nozzle to put on the floor brush. I find that pretty annoying...

Filter Queen - What filters do I need?

I am wondering if anyone here can help me with a Filter Queen Majestic that someone in my family acquired. It came with just a thin paper filter in it, so we ordered some paper filters online, but we are not sure what else we may need. We printed a manual off the internet where it mentions 2...
