Premature celebration: Second Rainbow D4SE rebuild spits water

Update (or Thread Resurrection): All is well! Well, between the holiday season and a long trip for work I just finally got around to the Rainbow. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! Here's what I found: - The flange was very corroded, to the point that water might pass. Replaced it and...

Premature celebration: Second Rainbow D4SE rebuild spits water

Thanks everyone! The flange was very corroded--I cleaned it up with my dremel with a wire wheel attachment but it's far from the condition of the flange on the other Rainbow. I'll order a new flange, seal, and maybe a separator. This rainbow certainly deserved some wine, or maybe even...

Premature celebration: Second Rainbow D4SE rebuild spits water

Well, as stated in another post, I recently finished an overhaul of a Rainbow D4SE. It was filthy! After reassembly it ran like a top and I thought I was the proud owner of two fully functional Rainbows. Well, this second one spits water from the bottom of the vacuum unit housing, just above...

    Second Rainbow D4SE Overhaul

Greetings all! I recently picked up two D4SEs that needed some TLC. Well, the first one didn't go all that easy, but she's up and running like a champ now. This second one went much better--although it was MUCH dirtier inside! The bearings were very corroded as well. I ran the parts through...

New member with a Rainbow D4SE problem

UPDATE: The new spider arrived today. I disassembled the motor all the way and reassembled. The vacuum works like a champ! I took a good look at the old spider today--one part of it seems to have melted more than the rest of it. Maybe it was warped a bit or not in straight? Thanks...

New member with a Rainbow D4SE problem

Thanks Bike and Eureka! When my new parts arrive I'll make sure I have the spacers and baffle plate. I "think" the baffle plate is OK. I thought if any of the spacers and such were not installed correctly then the motor housing wouldn't go together. Am I right...? Cheers--Steve

New member with a Rainbow D4SE problem

Thank you... Here are a couple of pictures. The first shows the installation with the spider nut removed. The second one shows the trashed spider and the flange. You can see the mark on the flange where the spider was in contact with it. The melted plastic built up on the flange--you can...

New member with a Rainbow D4SE problem

Good day everyone! I recently acquired two Rainbow D4SEs. Both work--I thought I would rebuild one of them. I replaced the bearings and ran all the parts through the dishwasher. When I put it back together (no problems with reassembly) it ran beautifully, with drastically increased...
