    Horror stories!

Thank you gentlemen. I fully get what you are saying. In every business there are good, and bad people, however....... Many complaints (VERY many!) were directed toward, so called 'distributors', and not so many toward the company itself, or its product. It seems that there are too many "fly by...

    Horror stories!

As I mentioned before, I am a "bit" OCD. Part of this is, I have to learn everything about a product, device, machine, or anything else I own. So I read. And I research. This morning I got up at 4AM, and for two hours I was reading horror stories about the public's experience with Kirby! I am...

    Why Collect Vacuums?

Re post #63.......no problem "sptyks"! I like Internet, I really do, but sometimes it's hard to get the emotion (real meaning) behind the typed words on the screen.

    Why Collect Vacuums?

I'm sorry,....I didn't mean to write a biography. I was trying to explain why I vacuum every day, and why I am "attracted" to vacuum cleaners in general, and vintage Kirby in particular. The original thread started with "why do you collect", and I understood that it would also mean "why are you...

    Why Collect Vacuums?

I'll chime in, although I am NOT a collector. But,......... I was born in 1955, and I spent my childhood in Europe. Mom was a college professor, and she didn't do much cleaning. Before WW2 her (and Dad's) family owned vast properties, servants, employees, and staff. They were officially...

Your biggest basket-case vacuum resto/rebuild turn arounds

Your statement of "......ending up with a showpiece" is what I like to do most, in my spare time. I've restored countless Rolex watches (some I sold for a nice profit), guns (some kept, some sold), motorcycles, and cars (mostly sold). Keeping three motorcycles, and six cars, keeps me busy with...

the reviews of vacs: kirby Gsix

And to add to the OP's comment about the "rug renovator"........at first I was all "gung ho" to get it with one of my machines. Having ALL carpet cleaning needs in one machine sounds great! But I did some research, and some thinking on my own, and went out and bought a Bissel wet carpet...

the reviews of vacs: kirby Gsix

I generally agree with the OP (although it was hard to read). I am new to this whole "interest in vacuum cleaners", although I've been using them my whole life (much more than any of my ex wives, or the current one). I simply like freshly vacuumed house, and I've been vacuuming daily, my whole...

To seal, or not to seal, now is the question.

Thank you for this. Mine looks exactly like that. Everything seems to be stock, and the BPI didn't work. So,.....I guess I'll have to wait to get the new BPI, put everything together, and see what happens. The brush I have with this G4 is in the same condition as yours, spins freely, no play in...

To seal, or not to seal, now is the question.

Just to add,.......the small cap is on the end with the spacer, and the spacer has visible marks where it was rolling next to BPI. So I assume it was installed correctly, because there is no magnet visible on the other side. Question is,......is there a magnet inside this spacer, or not?

To seal, or not to seal, now is the question.

After some research, I found out that indeed the brush rollers are different between G4, and later models (despite the fact that MANY Ebay sellers offer brushes that supposedly fit all models from G3 on!). Then I started to research which brush I have in this machine, and I got stuck. No parts...

To seal, or not to seal, now is the question.

Vaccumfreak.....how many Kirbys do you have? Do you have one that came with "Handibutler"? You can use that for polishing. You can also use the "Turbo sander" that came with Heritage series for polishing. If none of that is available,......you can get a bench grinder on Ebay, or locally, for...

To seal, or not to seal, now is the question.

No, not yet. Everything is in pieces right now. I'll start buffing on Monday (I left off yesterday in the sanding stage), on Wednesday I'm getting the shipment from Kent (new bumper, BPI, and the lifter label). Once everything is here, I'll assemble it, and we'll see. Magnet in the brush can...

To seal, or not to seal, now is the question.

Sorry, I don't buy this "moisture getting in" prevention. The thing is designed to be used like a blower, right? Fan totally exposed. Sucking up moist air (in the ocean communities air can be VERY damp). Top cover is not sealed either (all electrical is right under the top cover). Point...

    Sometimes crazy things happen

Thanks for the link (very informative, and I haven't seen it before). I like "pre 1955" models. They look great, and I'm sure they perform as well as the ones I had the pleasure to work with. In all my "collecting" I use the same "method". As I have only this one life (and no "afterlife" that I...

To seal, or not to seal, now is the question.

Restoration on G4 is coming out nicely. I DO believe in sanding, and the nozzle had some DEEP gauges, that needed to be taken out. Starting with Dremel, and going to power sander with 150 sandpaper, gradually decreasing the grit, finishing with 1200, and I have a good "canvas" on which to...

    Sometimes crazy things happen

You are killing me man! LOL If I go to get another one, I'm going to be the "official collector". Wife already proclaimed that I am now a "DORK" for having all these vacuum cleaners in the house! LOL BTW......that Dual Sanitronic 50 IS one good looking machine. I'm doomed. IF I go that route...

    Sometimes crazy things happen

Thank you gentlemen. I will leave the fan alone for now. This thing doesn't have a "designated area" for work yet, and as it looks, it will be used occasionally in the bedrooms, without the possibility of picking up anything but dust. Kent ("Kirbyfans") offered me the new style lifter, but just...

    Sometimes crazy things happen

One of the people I "know" (not really, just waving to each other in passing), shows up yesterday at the gate, hits the intercom, and wants to "ask me something". So I drop working with my horses, and drive down to the gate (about 250 yards away), and he says "so and so told me that you are...

Kirby 511 - Factory Rebuilt in April 1967

Pics would be nice. Depending on condition, you might be able to get more for it in parts. I guess the question is,....how much do you value it? There are few vintage machines on Ebay for some ridiculous money, and they are not selling (as I'm sure you are aware of!). Market is limited, and the...
