Saved this Hoover from the trash man. Works great, just needed a good cleaning. The attachments were all there and the self propelled works great. I remember these in all the Service Merchandise and Sears ads of the 90s. Anytime I’d go in those stores, these would be on a big display.

Thanks, I ordered soak of the Dirt Devil 4/5s. Just got it all back together after a good cleaning. Not the worst vacuum I’ve taken apart but for sure not the easiest. Makes you nervous especially if you break something, good luck finding a replacement.

Finally added one of the vacuums of my childhood to my collection the Fantom Thunder. I’ve found some replacement Fantom belts, but are there any other belts that would work? I’ve looked around and haven’t found much. Seems like yesterday the Fantom infomercials were on all the time.

I found the black open top replacement bags on eBay along with the red trim. There is a guy I believe his handle on the bay is Kirby Needs that has a lot of Kirby parts. I’ll attach a pic of the bag I got and how I retroed the Kirby logo to look original.

Here is a Tradition I purchased from a fellow member on pieces and over the past year restored. I spent a lot of time buffing and polishing but well worth it. The motor was good but repacked the bearings and she works great. Hope y’all enjoy

Les, Thanks! Yes I’ve worked on a few. When I have time I’ve got the G4, G6, and another Ultimate G to work on. I’ve been busy instead restoring a Heritage. These Kirby’s are pretty easy to work on and it surprises me how many people think they are broke and toss them.

I took the trans out, cleaned it, put a dab of oil on the axle and it it so much better now.

No it’s when you turn off the machine and motor has almost stopped turning.

Just got a G4 and G6 and both are making an odd noise once the motor is shut off. It’s coming from the transmission area and is not the clicking sound. Luckily neither make that. Can’t tell if it bearing or not. Has anything else had any odd sounds? Almost sounds like bearings but is back...

Is Tacony still assembling vacuum in the USA or have they fully outsourced by now. Couldn’t find much online. Thanks for any info provided
