    Handi Butler

Picked this up at the local thrift store, never used, and never used by me - so has anyone used one of these? As you can see, this has a grinder etc. on it, does a buffer wheel fit on this unit and if so does a generic one or do I have to find something from Kirby? Thanks any info would be...

    Electrolux

Say, why don't you post a picture? I would say that you could take the vacuum to, let's say a Benjamin Moore paint store and get a quart of oil paint matched to that color, forget about just buying it off the shelf or getting a match done at Lowes or a hardware store. Then, with a fine...

    Hoover Model 63 Resto

I dunno, the original condition machine didn't look too bad, what if you tried a little hand polish with some Mother's polish, I bet the scuff marks would have come right off...

    Look at this Kirby!

75 years and it is an antique. I've got a Better Homes and Gardens from the 1950s and in it they were saying 100, but I'm pretty sure it's 75 now. For cars, 75 - antique, then it is something like 30 classic, 50 vintage. I've got a 1951 buick so only 15 yrs to go.

    Electrolux model G

Hey, thanks for the info, just some observations on this one -- the power Nozzle outlet is under the hose on this one, and there is a little flange on the cord for that rubber protector so the two definitely go together. Say, I don't see a visable serial number on this, I mean, is see the plate...

Vintage GE upright - any info?

Yes, Hi and thanks for the information. This one has the toggle switch on the back of the handle and the down position is the slower speed, middle is off, and the up position is the faster. Seems like one would almost always be using the more powerful setting.

    Electrolux model G

Well, here is another Model G. Looking at the achives it seems this is a good machine and it certainly has nice styling. I was looking for that missing part at the thrift store for the GE and this was there. It came with a good condition hose. I plan on popping in on that store again, and am...

Vintage GE upright - any info?

Well, I picked this up at a store called the Goodwill outlet today, and am intersted if anyone has any information on it. I looked in the archives and didn't see this particular model. Anyway, the bad news is that it is missing some of the key parts, as you can see, and the beater bar is also...

    516 Resto Begins... Questions

My method for polishing these up involves more the use of sandpaper. I start with 220 to get the deeper scratches out, then go through the different sandpapers all the way up to 3000 grit. It is easier if you don't skip any, so what I have been able to find is 220, 320 400, 500 600, 800, 1000...

    Restoring the Electrolux SAP

looks Great! Thanks for sharing and all the great photos. I guess that is what the armour all is meant to do, I think it will help preserve it too.

    A Sensible Beige Kirby

Color Question I have wondered about these different colors -- was that belt lifter made for a particular machine or to update older ones? I've seen blue treatments, but what other colors are there?

    Sad trip to becoming Vintage

Just saw Brandon's thread about the Eureka find -- I was just in a Vacuum shop to buy a light bulb for a Kirby 516 and asked if they had any parts for older Kirbys. The store owner informed me that he had just thrown away about $3000 worth of older Kirby stuff and that no one ever brought them...

    Introducing the New Kirby!

It looks like it came right from the factory. Actually I have been wondering if some of these "improvements" made to older machines, aren't somewhat historically interesting and worth saving. for instance - I am looking at a "500" at the moment - I think I got it - but the handle is from a...

    Kirby 516 problem

In fact, in my photo, you can see a shiney area in back of the nozzle "c" shape on the body of the machine. That more closely matches the missing metal and mirrors the shape that is on the 513 nozzle

    Kirby 516 problem

Thanks for the suggestions. Some more information would be that there is a circular casting information area in this part that has a "64" in the middle. When I looked at the same place in my 513 it had an "H" there, so I don't know if this means the date or not. In other words the nozzel on...

    Kirby 516 problem

Well, this 516 was working fine but then the front head started to “ride up” and on closer inspection I see that for some reason an earlier owner had modified it I think. There is some metal missing here. Now, I was thinking I might try to tap a screw in the end and file it down to fit, but I...

    Kirby Model 508

Quite amazing and an inspiration to anyone trying to fix up their vintage stuff. Looks like that detail in the aluminum that is on either side of the belt lifter on the 509 is wider than the 508. The 509 looks a little bit lower to the ground as well. Am I seeing things? Do they sound the...
