Vintage Electrolux Repair Help in MA

The Marquise is actually the old Super J design and so for robustness, it trumps the G design. Suction will be similar, but a properly working Marquise should have a little more suction than the G.....not much though. I always go through the cord winders when I start on one of these machines...

    Alex Taber..Electrolux history

What's fascinating about Electrolux Canada was their approach to model sales. Generally, in the US big corporations told the American consumer what was in style and what they would have(See the series "Madmen"). The Canada corporation was more interested in consumer feedback and what the...

Vintage Electrolux Repair Help in MA

That's true...... Any Electrolux with a cord reel, you can have electrical failure there. And while I think Electrolux cord reel assemblies are easy to repair, many people find them very frustrating, even dangerous. Kevin

What would I have to change to make a 220v Constellation work in the US

No..... you'd have to find a used/rebuilt one. They were made for 20yrs, so parts are still out there. Kevin

Vintage Electrolux Repair Help in MA

Kenny...... it could be a number of things on the G....Bad armature, or brush holders, bearings and/or fan stage bent etc. It would probably be obvious to you if you took things apart and posted pics......if you want to go that route. The G however, would be my LAST choice in a commercial or...

    Alex Taber..Electrolux history

Alex, I get that. My only point was that Electrolux was like a sea beast with many tentacles. I collect many things other than vacs. Electrolux played a factor in many of them.....a company whose policies/expansion I cannot ignore if I want to understand the landscape back then and even today...

I found that..... big filter at one of the more popular vac places that members use here. I think it was about $8-$10. Might be able to sub in a wet & dry paper filter in a pinch, but the OE filter is of a different composition.....more felt-like. The motors are VERY durable and can take a lot...

The Teflon inserts on it should be fine since it doesn't seem anyone has taken the wand apart, but if needed I have some of a similar shape made for pipes and it should work." You're probably thinking of the Teflon compression washers for 1 1/4' and 1 1/2" sink drain piping. I don't think those...

Semantics....either plastic or Teflon.....I assumed Teflon because they are still very pliable after all these yrs....not usually indicative of plastic. They are very flat/thin pliable rings. I had smeared them with grease with some success, but the grease attracts dirt. Maybe a carrier which...

Great.... ....welcome to Connie Wonderland! If you're a sucker for whimsical, you sure got it...lol. I'm a plumber by trade and I can think of nothing Teflon or seal-like that are similar to what Hoover put in the wand segments. Perhaps you can post a pic of what you have? It's not an issue...

    Alex Taber..Electrolux history

Electrolux Group AB was a dirty phrase when it came to Swedish chainsaws in the late 70's. They bought up all the small companies, closed their product production forever and essentially had two remain; Husqvarna and Jonsered(s). A lot of wonderful, colorful history was gone in just a few yrs...

Some of the color.... schemes are breathtaking. One could collect for just that reason! I love the Pumpkin color I have, but that 'Nassau Blue'....hubba hubba! And who wouldn't like that floor tool with the support wheels....never even seen one in the flesh..... Kevin

    Curious Constellation

Dave gave a great history lesson on the Connie. As I said earlier, kind of a whimsical vac....the originals. Most interesting are the swivel tops and then the model that tilts forward.....then you just collect for cool colors. Those wands that have the Teflon inserts to seal the...

    Curious Constellation

They are a very basic vacuum....nothing complicated to work on. I have two in that color. No filter for the US model downstream of the motor so that it can leave motor brush dust on a white carpet. The Euro models got a filter there. The white and stainless model John mentions is twice the...

I get that, however there is a rabid following of collectors from the Super J on. Plus....there is a member(John/tig21er)who has vast knowledge on Electrolux motors for over 50 yrs. I think his brain should be picked if he's so willing...

    Alex Taber..Electrolux history

Well...... a few things I'd like to get cleared up. The front wheels on the G ARE different in size from the rear wheels. The rear wheels actually have like a thin tire fitted to them. Lester tried to BBQ me on this, but he was wrong. And in his Electrolux history he doesn't make it clear what...

Vacuums you find or found to be scary?

Rexair...... an adult took it off the tub while the motor was still spinning. I could see something spinning inside the metal screen housing. They looked like razors to my young eyes. I had visions of losing my fingers in there as a small boy. Kevin

What...... thread is this in reference to? Did you take a cheap shot @"Murica"? Kevin

Another bidder saved me from myself

As far as usable vacs of note,$60 on eBay today is cheap. Often you see a nice vac you want and it's hundreds.....welcome to eBay and the world of hype price collecting. My addiction on eBay was solved. I became one of the four states that taxes Internet sales. So I don't buy anything on eBay...
