    I now own a Kirby

If the bag is detached from the other parts, it can be spin dried in the washer for a short time - I have done this. Then hang it outside in the sun & breeze, zipper open, and it should be dry in less than a day. The paint spot may need some light scraping with a plastic scraper - just go...

Can get the shakeout bag back together (Heritage II)

With the right technique, it is not too hard. You have to get it started on the back side, then ROLL the front edges on with your index fingers and thumb. See reply #2 of this thread for details and pics: https://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?34091 It can be done with one...

Rugsucker is right. The cord goes inside that channel and a zip-tie goes in the hole. The screw holding the channel piece is in the other side, out of view. Thanks for clearing that up!

Yes, there are supposed to be screws in those locations. Mothers mag and aluminum works great and can be found at many places. Looks like you are off to a good start. Take your time - you will learn a lot in this new adventure!

    Kirby G4 working parts unit

Hey Alex, Glad to know you are enjoying your 'new' G4. It felt good putting years of new life into it and not putting it out front for the scrappers. I knew there was a jewel under that top crusty layer and glad you saw it. Despite not all of the stains coming out, it still looks great for a...

    Looking to buy.

Hey Alex, Glad you are enjoying your 'new' G4 power plant! Happy to know it arrived safely also - this is the first time I had sent something this big through the US postal service. They were spot-on on the sipping quote as well. I was disappointed that all of the deep stains in the metal...

    I'm such a vac addict...

YAY!! Congrats, Barry - you are in for a fun time with your new Kirby. One thing that is a sure turnoff with used vacuums is that they are dirty. However you can easily fix that. The plastic attachments wash up easily and look like new afterwards. I like simple green, but most any other...

    I'm such a vac addict...

Human, Awesome score on the Legend! I think these are the some of the best Kirbys to have if you do not want the self propel or narrow nozzle. So far, with my experience, the only way Kirbys are beyond use or repairing is if they had been murdered. If you see broken outer castings, or it...

    Kirby G4 working parts unit

Alex, your G4 'power plant' will be heading out to you tomorrow after work. I just got it all boxed up and ready to go. This thing was used a lot with the shampooer and was definitely rode hard and put away wet. The resulting deep stains would not buff out all the way with my equipment, but...

Kirby Legend II/Kirby Heritage Power Switch

There is a way to carefully remove the exposed button from the Legend assembly and replace the button on the Heritage assembly so that the colors stay correct. I do not have a spare one laying around so cannot verify how easy it would be to do so. It could just pry out or the switch may need...

Kirby Legend II/Kirby Heritage Power Switch

Here is why I wish I could have gotten ALL of the machines being liquidated from the Plano shop when it closed in 2019. About 30 Heritage/HII units were scrapped, which would have been great for parting out. However I only had a finite amount of space and I had already collected more than I...

Kitchen Aid Mixer Attachments Contain Lead.

With a name like 'lead safe mama' it has to be pure sientific (sic) research! //rolleyes// While there ~could~ be tiny traces in cast aluminum, this is not 'potmetal' which would be a concern. Potmetal is a slag of all sorts of melted down crap. I would not worry about your mixer much...

    Looking to buy.

If you are just looking for a great parts unit, I have one still listed here. https://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?43090_0 Free, just pay for shipping. I forget what kind of fan it has - if grey then you probably do not want it. It is destined for the scrappers this spring.

Vintage Hoover Dimension 1000 Powermatic canister set - Local pickup in East Plano, TX

I saw this at my friend's thrift store today - the Plaid Tag at NE corner of Ave K (Plano rd) and Park, next to Poor Richards Cafe. Looks like from the 1990's, model 53283-040. Made in USA, so it has to be old AND well made! Overall well taken care of - hose is good, all attachments are there...

    Nationwide gas stove ban?

I hate circuit boards in appliances with a passion. I am an electronics engineer and circuit board designer, and I get a lot of insight on how things are made now. In short it is pretty sad, and re-enforces why I buy or keep vintage stuff as much as possible. Given that most of them are...

    Nationwide gas stove ban?

The induction technology has the potential to work well with some improvements, but still has some severe drawbacks in my eyes: 1 - the complexity. Lots of electronics are used, lots to go bad, esp when cheapo-made components are used (like electrolytic caps). These units will obsolete...
