Free - owners manuals for B&D Dustbuster vac and Whirlpool direct drive washer

I doubt there is any interest in these, but thought I would ask here before they go into the recycle can.. Free, just pay the postage. Dustbuster was from 2004, covers models listed on front. These were the nicad versions with replaceable battery packs. Washer was from 1999 - top loader...

    Bagged thrift store sightings

Darn - I saw a DD 103 at Goodwill last week - maybe I shoulda got it. Oh, well - I already have a much newer one (that has the useless air-driven brushroll)..

    $25 Well Spent

Nice find - I kinda like the bright yellow.. That thing just screams 70's! I saw a similar machine but a ivory/burgundy at the local goodwill for 20 bucks, the going price for most thrift store vacs here. Antique stores usually price stuff 5-20 times reasonable thrift store prices, so I say you...

    Stuck metal Kirby fan

I would then wrap an old towel around the fan (case apart) and give some hard cranks clockwise (like an impact) until it breaks free. Just try to keep pressure towards the bottom of the blades and as uniform across the blades as you can get to avoid braking a blade.

    Stuck metal Kirby fan

I have always used my Craftsman scratch awl, which is like a screwdriver but with a tapered shaft with a point at the end. Never came close to breaking it as it fits the armature hole fully and is hardened steel. A wide ice pick might work if it is hardened and fills the hole.

    vintage blender

Yes, universal motors in all these old blenders. Solid state meant that it used an electronic speed control circuit, rather then a mechanical governor. I still have and use my mom's chrome and glass GE blender from 1964. Only two speeds but it still makes good margaritas.

1964 Kirby cost vs competitors at the time

BTW - congrats on the acquisition of your grandma's Kirby! They were costly back then, and for a good reason! When not abused, they can last as long as the buyer, with minimal repairs. My mom still has and uses her Dual Santronic 50 that she got back in 1965 or so. She has the receipt and...

1964 Kirby cost vs competitors at the time

House prices got away from me

Unfortunately there is no easy or predictable solution as of now. Real estate seems gridlocked at the moment. I have not seen many homes for sale in my area lately, which is a little unusual. The few I do see have been for sale for a while. All we can do is wait to see what happens. Given...

House prices got away from me

I feel for ya... I know exactly how you feel and what you are going though - my sympathy is with you (and everyone else in this situation.) You were planning this out smartly, but the world events just threw everything into a turmoil unexpectedly. My situation is very similar but different...

    Kirby belt cover damage

No way to repair it for routine use it but you could coat it with a clear epoxy paint (like POR15) in last resort just to keep it from crumbling. It will not look original, but it would be better then being in pieces. I coated a crumbling polystyrene dash cluster frame 10 years ago and it is...

    Northern Midge Electric Radio

What a STEAL for only 6 bucks!! Very cute radio. The one who priced it must have thought it was just a newer Chinesium retro replica.. Glad it was an easy fix and hope you enjoy it for a long time to come.

Vintage Hoover Dimension 1000 Powermatic canister set - Local pickup in East Plano, TX

Murphy strikes again... "An object not wanted will reside on the store shelf forever. Once said object has a great desire, it will be gone." And that is what has happened. Sorry Cole... It is now gone - hope a collector got it. I searched the whole store twice - no sign of it. I did score...

The Kirby Quest for a G5 has ended

And here it is all done. It looks a lot better, but up close some of the stains can still be seen. Good enough for a daily-use machine.. Next will be to work on the drivetrain and slide mechanism. After that will be motor bearing replacement and total reassembly!

The Kirby Quest for a G5 has ended

Here is before polishing with Mother's mag & aluminum polish on a 4" wheel on a drill. After this was done I wiped the parts down with solvent, then did one last hand polish.

The Kirby Quest for a G5 has ended

Here is wet-sanding in progress. I did this in a dish pan in the kitchen sink, with a little dish detergent as a lube and dispersant... Note the differences in the motor shell and the nozzle when half is done, half not. This makes polishing easier and faster.

The Kirby Quest for a G5 has ended

There seems to be not much interest in G series restorations so I will let the pics do most of the describing... Due to the severe tarnishing and corrosion, I decided to wet-sand all of the metal parts before polishing. I used 1000 and 2000 grit. Below are the pieces before sanding (less the...

The Kirby Quest for a G5 has ended

I had tried the small screwdriver method and I broke the first 'loop' so I stopped. A thin Exacto blade may work better as it is thinner and not wedge shaped. As I was trying to pull the strap down and off while fully connected, it popped open some, just enough for me to get it off. I wonder...
